About MacKinnon Magnetics and the Program
MacKinnon Magnetics is an Ontario-based manufacturer of low-voltage dry-type transformers ranging from 15 to 800 kVA. We complete the full process in-house at our Concord facility, including engineering, production, assembly and testing.
As demand for power and electrical infrastructure continues to grow, the transformer manufacturing industry is expected to create increasing opportunities for individuals with engineering and technical skills. In connection with a Government of Ontario-supported training initiative, MacKinnon Magnetics is offering a paid, hands-on engineering training program designed to help participants understand the transformer industry and gain experience in an active manufacturing setting.
About the Training
This intensive four-week program is designed for individuals with education in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a closely related technical field. Participants will learn from MacKinnon Magnetics' mechanical engineer, electrical engineer and testing technician.
Because our transformers are engineered, manufactured and tested in-house, participants will be able to see how engineering decisions move from calculations and drawings into physical production and final testing.
What Participants Will Learn
· The fundamentals of low-voltage dry-type transformer design and manufacturing.
· How electrical and mechanical engineering contribute to transformer design, production and performance.
· How engineering drawings, calculations, materials and specifications connect to factory operations.
· How transformers move through production, assembly and testing.
· How to work safely and effectively in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
· Practical exposure to engineering, manufacturing and testing professionals.
Program Details
Location: MacKinnon Magnetics, 2 Bessemer Court, Concord, Ontario
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Lunch: 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Program length: Approximately four weeks, depending on cohort scheduling
Cohort size: Approximately 2 to 4 participants, depending on cohort scheduling
Cohort timing: Multiple cohorts will run throughout the year, generally beginning approximately every four weeks, subject to scheduling and available space
Training Stipend
Participants may receive a total potential training stipend of $2,880 gross, less applicable taxes and deductions:
· $1,440 gross after successfully completing the first two weeks of training.
· $1,440 gross after successfully completing the full training program.
Stipend payments are conditional on satisfactory attendance, active participation, completion of required program documentation and successful achievement of the applicable training milestone. Approved stipend payments will be processed in accordance with MacKinnon Magnetics’ regular payment-processing schedule and issued on the next applicable scheduled payment date.
Eligibility and Qualifications
· Applicants must be able to reliably attend the Concord facility Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
· Applicants must have a degree, diploma or equivalent credential in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a closely related technical field.
· Internationally educated engineering and technical applicants with equivalent credentials are encouraged to apply.
· Applicants should be comfortable participating in both engineering-focused learning and hands-on activities within a manufacturing facility.
Certificate of Completion
Participants who successfully complete the full program will receive a MacKinnon Magnetics certificate of completion.
