The Red Tape Reduction (RTR) Branch is responsible for leading and coordinating efforts to reduce red tape across the Government of Alberta (GOA), including supporting stakeholder engagement activities.
The Branch role involves supporting the Minister in fulfilling mandate, developing training tools, providing policy support, tracking RTR initiatives, measuring performance and impact, managing RTR adaptations and communications, and maintaining RTR databases for information accuracy.

Role Responsibilities Are you ready to step into a role where critical thinking, analytical evaluation, and clear communication drive decision-making? As a regulatory excellence officer, you’ll draw on policy expertise and research methodology to uncover insights, evaluate evidence, and craft well-reasoned recommendations.
Reporting to the Director, Strategic Policy, you will contribute policy, research, and data-management support to advance strategic priorities related to the Government of Alberta RTR mandate, including engagement activities across internal and external partners.
Responsibilities include project management and outreach to track, measure, and reduce regulatory burden, with broad knowledge of project management, government decision-making, policy development, data management, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
Your main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Drafting briefing notes, correspondence, and other materials for diverse audiences.
Tracking departmental RTR initiatives.
Assisting with development and management of tools to estimate and reduce regulatory compliance costs.
Supporting planning and development of RTR legislation.
Reviewing and organizing priority stakeholder submission data, public forms, and email correspondence.
Researching and applying cross-jurisdictional best practices in regulatory excellence.
Supporting projects and programming related to RTR mandate, including permit decision times and implementation of the Automatic Yes policy and toolkit.
Reviewing documents with a creative and engagement lens.
Supporting strategic engagement with industry and external stakeholders through methods including roundtables.
Fostering a strong community of practice across the Government of Alberta to facilitate RTR priorities.
As the regulatory excellence officer, you will also communicate with other government partners on regulatory burden tracking and promote a culture of regulatory excellence in engagements with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or Economics. Other related fields may be considered.
Equivalencies will be considered on a basis of one year of related experience for one year of education.
Experience or Knowledge That Will Be Considered an Asset:
Theoretical knowledge of research methodologies, data analysis, and program development.
Work experience in program or policy research.
Experience with or knowledge of government structure and processes.
Experience with or knowledge of program delivery from inception to completion, including program evaluation.
Experience with or knowledge of research methodologies and techniques, statistics, economics, and project planning.
Work experience in project management.
Work experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Work experience in SharePoint and CRM (Dynamics).
