Job Summary Reporting directly to the Community Recreation Manager, the Community Program Coordinator (CPC) is responsible for quality assurance, program and service development, planning, financial management (operating and capital budgets) for multiple service areas within a designated community.

This position will provide leadership to full-time staff and part-time staff to meet the needs of the community. The CPC is responsible for multi-service areas within the Southeast Area of Markham and must ensure they are run effectively and efficiently through engaging the community residents, community organizations/groups and community partners. The CPC will also be responsible for the delivery of the Community Hub program and alignment with the Integrated Leisure Master Plan.

Key Duties





- Develop and implement the community engagement strategy within the Southeast Area of Markham which includes the Aaniin and Rouge River Community Centers.
- Provide administration and coordination for all Recreation programs and Services including but not limited to aquatics, children and youth programs, adult and senior general programs, recreational and instructional sports, and camps within the southeast area of Markham.
- Provide direct support to the Aaniin Community Hub Program.
- Works actively and cooperatively within the recreation team to ensure service excellence is maintained throughout the community.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule and manage performance of full-time staff.
- Development and ongoing monitoring of operating and capital budgets.
- Manage the implementation of capital projects, including identification and implementation of capital budget items.
- Plan and implement programs and services.
- Conduct regular Customer Satisfaction Surveys.
- Ensure an environment of customer service excellence exists when dealing with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure total compliance with established health regulations and industry standards.
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of promotional materials

Minimum Education And Experience Required

- University Degree or College diploma in recreation or appropriate discipline
- A minimum of five years’ supervisory experience in a community or recreation environment
- Direct experience in facility management, aquatics, programs/camps, senior services considered an asset.




- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certificate
- Excellent communication skills (Written and Verbal).
- Ability to handle difficult on-the-spot questions from interest groups, media and officials.
- Valid Ontario Class G Drivers License
- As a condition of employment, you will be required to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening check.
