CASUAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT

Job Function:

- Reports to the school principal or designate
- Provides direct educational support to students in various classrooms
- Supports students through direct supervision in a variety of settings
- Assists students with adaptive skills
- Actively involved with students in a variety of settings
- Prepares adapted and modified educational materials
- Expected to provide personal care assistance including but not limited to lifting, feeding, toileting, etc.
- Works with students who have a delegated care plan through Nursing Support Services
- Other related duties as required

Qualifications:

- Grade 12 graduation
- Education Assistant certificate or diploma from a recognized college, 2 year diploma preferred
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
- Special education/child care related experience
- Must acquire specific skills related to a special needs child
- Training and extensive behaviour management experience working with children with autism preferred
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, students and the community
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions

Hours of Work & Salary:

- Casual shifts range from 4 to 6 hours per day, Monday - Friday, while schools are in session
- Short-term assignments may also be available
- Casual employment may lead to a regular position in the district
- Education Assistant pay is $34.54 per hour (plus $0.15 per hour Labour Market Adjustment)
