The Drop In Helper will be a person who is passionate about creating a welcoming environment through a commitment to our standards of excellence, radical hospitality, and community service.

Organizational Relationships & Supervision:

Location of Position: Satellite Campus

Reports to: Drop In Manager

Authority: Granted to supervise guests utilizing our drop-in centre and to intervene when situations warrant. This person should freely seek advice or assistance when dealing with a difficult person or situation, particularly if it is a new, unfamiliar situation.

- Must be willing to work according to the Souls Harbour Rescue Mission statement: Souls Harbour Rescue Mission exists to rescue people from poverty, addiction, and despair by offering emergency help, such as food, clothing, and shelter, life changing recovery programs, and the Gospel Message




- Must be willing to respect the Souls Harbour doctrinal statement (as per staff manual)
- Must be bondable - criminal record check required

Qualifications:

- Must have a heart for the homeless
- Must maintain the strictest confidentiality.
- Able to handle high stress environments
- Able to follow instructions.
- Hard working & flexible: able to deal with changing duties in a typical “roam and assist” manner.

Objectives:

- To assist the Drop-In Manager
- To ensure the daily drop in runs smoothly

Specific Duties:

- Assist with daily drop in (Monday - Friday) working with guests who deal with social and economic barriers, disabilities, etc. Many of our guests are also seniors who are struggling with poverty or loneliness.
- Help prepare meals for 80 people daily.
- Assist with “Free Mart” - free clothing & household goods store
- Visit with clients at the drop in centre.
- Answer phones when needed.
- Ensure the Drop-In Centre remains neat, clean and orderly.
- Other duties as assigned by the Drop In Manager.

Job Types: Full time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal
Contract length: 16 weeks

Pay: $17.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
