Job Synopsis
The New Hamburg Custodian is a salaried part‑time role responsible for maintaining a consistent, high standard of cleanliness across two MCC facilities on Heritage Drive in New Hamburg. Serving both a busy retail thrift shop and a multi‑purpose hub that includes office, warehouse, processing, and meat canning operations, the role develops and carries out a coordinated cleaning plan that supports safe, welcoming, and effective daily operations. Working in close communication with Physical Resources staff and facility managers, the Custodian ensures cleaning activities are completed with minimal disruption to staff, volunteers, and program activities.
This role will work 22.5 hours weekly. Hours will be 6 am - 10:30 am, Monday to Friday.
This role is based at MCC Ontario’s facilities in New Hamburg.

Essential
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work, take initiative, and work independently with minimal supervision
- Physical ability to perform custodial duties,
including prolonged standing and walking, repeated bending and reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Experience operating custodial equipment (e.g., power scrubbers, vacuums, floor care machines)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers
- Familiarity with WHMIS 2015 and safe handling of cleaning supplies
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, or overnight shifts to minimize disruption to operations
- Basic to intermediate computer skills (e.g., email, internet, MS Word/Excel) for communication and coordination
- High School Diploma + 3-5 years relevant experience or 5-7 years equivalent experience
Preferred
- Experience supporting or coordinating the work of other custodial staff
- Mechanical aptitude related to the care and troubleshooting of cleaning equipment
- Training or certification in scissor lift, fall arrest, or lift truck operation
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards across both New Hamburg facilities, including retail, office, warehouse, processing, kitchen, and washroom areas
- Develop and implement a coordinated cleaning plan for both sites in collaboration with Physical Resources staff and facility managers
- Perform regular floor care (sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming) using appropriate equipment for each space
- Clean and restock washrooms, kitchens, meeting rooms, and common areas according to established schedules
- Monitor, maintain, and properly store custodial equipment; clean equipment after use and report maintenance needs
- Track custodial supply levels and communicate shortages in a timely manner
- Complete periodic deep‑cleaning tasks (e.g.,
interior windows, warehouse floors, shelving, high‑touch surfaces) on weekly, bi‑weekly, and monthly cycles
- Support seasonal maintenance activities, including snow and ice removal at entrances and exterior window cleaning
- Work in a manner that minimizes disruption to ongoing retail, office, and production operations
- Identify opportunities to improve cleaning efficiency, safety, and overall facility appearance

Salary Details
Base salary: $31,121. The salary stated is an annual amount. This role starts on day 1 with a company paid benefit package
