The Guelph Jazz Festival is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Digital Marketing Specialist to help shape and share the Festival’s story across digital platforms. Working under the supervision of the Festival Manager and General Director, this role supports the Festival’s year-round communications and plays a central part in how audiences experience and connect with our programming online.
This position is responsible for creating, coordinating, and publishing content across the Guelph Jazz Festival’s digital channels, including social media platforms, the Festival website, and video platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo. The Digital Marketing Specialist will help maintain a vibrant and consistent online presence that reflects the Festival’s commitment to adventurous, creative, and community-rooted music-making.
Working closely with the Festival Manager, General Director, and Graphic Designer, the role supports the development and delivery of digital campaigns connected to festival programming, including artist announcements, event promotion, and special projects. This includes helping to translate visual and editorial materials into engaging digital content that supports audience engagement and awareness.
The position also plays a key role in communicating the Festival’s fundraising initiatives, including the annual 50/50 draw, ensuring messaging is explicit, accessible, and aligned with the Festival’s tone and values.
Beyond day-to-day content management, the Digital Marketing Specialist will also contribute to exploring new digital platforms and approaches that can expand how the Festival connects with audiences locally, nationally, and internationally. This is a role for someone who is excited by both the practical and creative sides of digital storytelling in a cultural context.
Skills and Experience
- Digital storytelling: Ability to translate festival programming, artist work,
and organizational messaging into compelling digital content across social media, web, and video platforms.
- Social media presence-building: Experience managing and creating content for platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, with an understanding of tone, pacing, and audience engagement in an arts or cultural context.
- Content creation: Comfort creating a range of digital assets, including written posts, basic graphics, and short-form video content that reflects the Festival’s identity and programming.
- Collaboration across creative teams: Ability to work closely with designers, producers, and festival leadership to shape cohesive campaigns that reflect both visual and editorial intent.
- Video and archive platforms: Familiarity with YouTube and Vimeo for uploading, organizing, and presenting video content in a way that supports discovery and audience engagement.
- Design tools: Working knowledge of tools such as Canva and basic editing software to adapt and prepare content for digital distribution.
- Communication: Strong writing skills with an ability to adapt tone for different audiences while maintaining clarity, warmth, and consistency across platforms.
- Curiosity and initiative: An interest in exploring current platforms, tools, and approaches to digital engagement within an arts and festival context.
- Attention to detail: Care in maintaining consistency across content, including tone, formatting, scheduling, and visual presentation.
- Interest in arts, music, and live performance: A demonstrated interest in contemporary music,
live performance, arts festivals, or cultural programming is strongly valued. Familiarity with or curiosity about live music environments, performance-based work, or arts organizations will be considered an asset.
Work Conditions
The Digital Marketing Specialist will work in a hybrid arrangement, combining remote work with in-person work at the Guelph Jazz Festival shared office space at Silence (46 Essex St) in Guelph, using a personal computer. In-person work is required three (3) days per week.
