Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit. In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations. The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr.

Eligibility and program details are described below as part of the specialty training chance, including prerequisites and commitments for post-basic training education with BCIT and related practicum requirements.

Eligibility and Training Details
• Eligibility for the post-basic training education is prioritized to applicants with approximately one year recent acute medical/surgical experience upon emergency program full-time start date.n
- BCIT Emergency Nursing Specialty Program
- Online Prerequisites Approx. July - Nov. 2026 – Dates to be confirmed by BCIT
- Full-time training at BCIT & practicum locations Jan. - Apr. 2027 – Dates to be confirmed by BCIT
- Travel to lower mainland required during practicums (exact dates TBD). Travel expenses reimbursed according to VCH policy.
- Applicants must successfully complete the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.
- Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)
as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training. If a candidate leaves the area or VCH within 18 months, VCH may recover the cost of the program.

Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients/clients on the inpatient ward; provide nursing care to predominantly older residents in a continuing care setting.
- Provide emergency nursing care to patients/clients of all ages presenting to the emergency department with a wide variety of symptoms.
- Work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Enhance quality of life from the perspective of the client/resident/patient and/or family.
- Consult, confer, and collaborate with other health care providers.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement and best practices approach in nursing practice.
- Demonstrate expertise and leadership in nursing practice. Maintains and advances own clinical competence.
- Participate on designated committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

Bella Bella is a beautiful island community off the central coast of British Columbia, 690 km north of Vancouver. It is surrounded by a world of channels, inlets and old growth forest. It is home to salmon, orcas, humpbacks, bald eagles and other Pacific Northwest wildlife. The climate is mild and the area offers opportunities for kayaking, sport fishing, hiking and photography.n
The ƛúxválásu'ailas Heiltsuk Hospital in Bella Bella has 7 acute beds, 7 long term care beds and a 4-bed emergency department open 24/7, along with Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging services. It offers telehealth services as well as specialty clinics. The hospital also has an Intensive Case Management team for mental health and substance use, a medical clinic and a pharmacy.

The healthcare team consists of Physicians, RNs, LPNs, PCAs, Laboratory and Radiology Technologists, Combined Lab/X-Ray Technologists, Pharmacist, Pharmacy Assistants, and Support Services Personnel.

ƛúxválásu'ailas Heiltsuk Hospital is located on the traditional territories of the Heiltsuk Nation. It is one of the only provincial hospitals located on a reserve in Canada.
