Following a promotion, WorkLink Employment Society is recruiting a full-time Program Facilitator for its federally funded youth program, START. This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who cares about inspiring youth and removing barriers to employment. The chosen candidate will work up to 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, in our Westshore location and occasionally in our Sooke office. This is a term position running until March 31, 2027, pending contract renewal.
Wage: $31.39 – 32.33
About The Society:
WorkLink has provided government-sponsored employment services to the residents of the Victoria Capital Region’s Westshore (Colwood, Langford, Highlands, View Royal, and Metchosin) since 1978. In 2008, our services expanded to include the communities of Sooke and surrounding areas including Jordan River and Port Renfrew. We are also pleased to provide Indigenous outreach services to the First Nations Communities of Beecher Bay, T’Souke, and Pacheedaht. Our non-profit organization is funded through both federal and provincial government initiatives. WorkLink is a registered charity in the Province of BC, which is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors chosen from leaders in the community.

About the Position:
The START Program (short for Skills Training and Readiness for Tomorrow) is funded by the federal government of Canada to assist eligible youth 15 to 30 years of age in developing a broad range of skills and knowledge to support them in obtaining and maintaining employment. This program consists of a 6-week classroom component with the opportunity of an 8-week work experience placement. The Facilitator will work alongside the Program Coordinator to support youth with barriers to employment, with the objective of developing self-awareness, self-esteem, motivation, problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and time management skills. The Program Facilitator will deliver training on a variety of employment-related life skills and mentor the youth in understanding the world of work and employer expectations.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Design and deliver in-person training to 10 participants
- Facilitate development of personal planning and job search skills, including motivation for self-sufficiency, interests and aptitudes, responsibilities/rights in the workplace, labour market analysis, career decision-making, and long-term goals
- Support clients with program assignments including certificates, worksheets, resume and cover letters, interview skills, etc.
- Arrange resource speakers such as local employers, skills trainers, etc.
- Assist participants in obtaining a suitable eight-week paid work experience placement
- Network with employers, community partners, and other service providers to promote the program, create resource connections, and foster employment opportunities for participants
- Refer participants to supportive community resources where appropriate
- Maintain accurate and confidential systems for tracking information on participants, project activities and employers
- Perform administrative duties including completing participant time sheets, reports, as well as other duties as required.
- Maintain a safe, positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment at all times.
What We Are Looking For:
- 3 years of experience as a workshop facilitator, teacher, or educational assistant
- At least 2 years of experience working with high-risk youth
- Experience supporting youth with job search or career exploration
- Post-Secondary Diploma directly related to Career/Employment Counselling or a related field preferred
- Clear, professional and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and proven ability to build trust and rapport with diverse clients
- Demonstrated knowledge of the local labour market
- Solid understanding of cover letter/resume writing best practices
- Able to evaluate teaching methods and adjust strategies and methods to support individual needs
- Proven experience maintaining successful relationships with community groups, employers and government agencies
- Proven skills in conflict management and constructive feedback
- Highly organized with proven administrative and time management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to comfortably learn recent programs
- High level of integrity and emotional intelligence, with a commitment to client confidentiality
- Certificate in First Aid and Mental Health First Aid preferred
- Clean, valid BC Driver’s license for occasional work-related travel
- Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check required for shortlisted candidates as a condition of employment
