Posting Details: Application Deadline: May 13, 2026at 12:00pm (noon) Estimated Start Date: Late June - Early July Position Status: Permanent, Full-time Hourly Rate: $33.54- $33.70per hour(effective October 1, 2025) Position Group: Unionized, CUPE1306 Openings: 1 Vacancy Hours per Week: 40 Competition #: 1306-26-05 Job Description: Mechanic Assistant Position Overview As a member of the Planning & Public Works department, Operations Division, under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor Fleet, and under the general guidance of the Mechanics, assists Mechanics in servicing, adjusting, performing minor repair and preventative maintenance of County vehicles and equipment.

Operates vehicles, equipment and tools necessary to maintain County roads and bridges, and operates a snow plow in the winter as required.

Job Specifications: Grade 12 education or equivalent; Formal education or training in mechanical maintenance and repairs or a willingness to attain is considered an asset; Automotive Service Technician (310S) considered an asset; 1 2 years of broad experience and aptitude for mechanical maintenance and repairs, ideally in a municipal environment; Snow plow operator training considered an asset; Knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act, Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspections and Hours of Service; Knowledge of safe work practices in a mechanic shop and roadside environment; Welding experience certificate considered an asset; Wheel Installer certificate or willingness to attain; Forklift experience certificate considered an asset; Crane operations experience certificate considered an asset; Currently possess a valid Ontario G drivers license and will successfully obtain a classDZ drivers license within the first 90 days of employment A recent drivers abstract.





Basic computer skills with the ability to navigate standard software, internet, etc.; Must have CSA approved safety footwear; In accordance with County policy, this position requires that you provide a Criminal Record Check that is acceptable to the County as a condition of employment.
