Reporting to the Regional Manager, the position is responsible for the promotion and delivery of regional economic development and business development programs, services, and initiatives. The incumbent is responsible for liaising, supporting, and building partnerships with regional economic development and business stakeholders in strategic planning, chance management, negotiating contracts, monitoring performance and budgets, and promoting and supporting economic development and diversification throughout the region. Duties include leading the facilitation of economic development planning activities with various audiences; supporting capacity building efforts with economic development stakeholders; analyzing project and business proposals and assessing of complex applications for financial assistance, including loans, equity and grants; reviewing and monitoring the progress of approved projects; and reviewing and providing recommendations on loan security requirements.

The position is responsible for independent decision making with respect to financial and counselling services provided to commercial and non-commercial clients. In addition to enhancing firm productivity using available business supports, the incumbent will foster collaboration between business, post-secondary institutions and government to drive regional innovation, productivity, and competitiveness.



Duties also include providing advice and support to senior management and representing the department with respect to various economic development issues.

The position also involves considerable written documentation, both internal and external, including but not limited to briefing notes and other related duties as required.

Screening Criteria

1. Completion of a degree in Business or a related field (equivalencies will be considered)
n
2. Experience in business and/or regional economic development
n
3. Experience with commercial and/or non-commercial financing
n
4. Experience in business counselling and/or proposal analysis
n
5. Experience in fostering collaboration with business, industry, academia and/or other community stakeholders
n
6. Experience in drafting and/or reviewing security/legal documents (asset)
n
