Hours of Work: 8:30am – 4:30pm

Position Summary

The position of Collections Intern will be of particular interest to a candidate who wishes to pursue further academic work in the museum field. The Woodstock Museum is a small and very active museum where the candidate will be given many responsibilities and opportunities to learn and develop. The candidate will work closely with the Curator of Collections to get a solid foundation in collections management and curatorial within the context of the other functions and priorities of an innovative municipal museum.n

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Researching the museum’s permanent clothing collection to correct, amend, update and improve the CMS and public collection portal as a resource for the citizens of Woodstock and Oxford County.
2. With assistance from the Curator of Collections, the Collections Intern will conceptualize and design an exhibit based on their research of the permanent clothing collection for the museum.
3. Assist at the front desk when required, welcoming and assisting gallery visitors and attendees of gallery programming.
4. Assist the Curator of Collections in preparing acquisition justifications and other materials for the Collections Committee.
5. Assist with the presentation and interpretation of the 125th Anniversary of the City of Woodstock exhibit at 4 events during the summer.
6. Adhere to The Woodstock Museum’s mandate, commitments,



and current community needs in all their work. With a strong focus on research and data management, the Collections Intern will work with the Curator of Collections to complete this work in a thorough, accurate and timely manner.
7. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Undergraduate degree in History or Museum Studies
- Attention to detail and solid written communication skills.
- Ability to complete work in a thorough, accurate and timely manner.
- Possess demonstrable strengths in research, problem-solving, and time management.
- Experience working or volunteering in public gallery, museum, or library would be considered an asset.

Eligibility and Requirements

- Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada. Note: Non-Canadian graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada (valid social insurance number).
- Between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment.
- Graduate from college, CEGEP or university.
- Registered in the YCW online candidate inventory.
