The primary responsibility of the Civil Substation Supervisor is to supervise and coordinate the civil construction activities of electrical substation projects on site, contributing to the safe, successful completion of the project on time and within budget.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and provide direct supervision to all civil personnel including subcontractors on-site to execute work plans and ensure qualified personnel are assigned to the tasks at hand;
- Review project plans and drawings; recommend changes based on field observations and operational challenges;
- Work with the Construction Manager to ensure adequate equipment, tooling and/or personnel and implement changes as required;
- Ensure the crews are completing all required reports and activities including but not limited to tailboard safety talks, field level risk assessments, supervisor inspections, and equipment/vehicle inspections prior to performing their daily work tasks;
- Report any near misses, incidents and disciplinary actions to the Construction Manager;
- Adhere to all safety standards by following approved secure work plans;
- Participate in project meetings as required; and,
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- 5+ years of supervisory experience leading a team in civil construction and underground utility work;
- Must be willing to travel frequently, working out of remote locations for multiple weeks at a time;
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills;
- High attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively in order to meet deadlines;
- Strong leadership and delegation skills; and,
- Valid Driver’s License
Working Conditions:
- Frequent travel, sometimes for extended periods of time including driving long distances;
- Working outside for long hours in all weather conditions, sometimes in remote areas where the chance for encounters with wildlife and insects are present.
