Position Title POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW – ACTS OF INTENTIONAL VIOLENCE

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities A postdoctoral fellow (PDF) position is available in the BaCoR lab (Building a Culture of Resilience) led by Dr. Haorui Wu, Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Disaster and Resilience, within the School of Social Work, Faculty of Health, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
The PDF will support a range of research projects examining the health and social impacts of intentional violence and developing related practice and policy interventions at the micro-, meso-, and macro-levels across Canada and internationally. These projects include, but are not limited to, (1) gender-based violence (GBV) in 2S/LGBTQI+ communities in climate change and disaster settings; (2) student-initiated violence against faculty members in higher education; and (3) forced displacement and trauma-informed settlement services. The position will involve designing and implementing qualitative and quantitative research, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, and publishing findings. Depending on qualifications, the successful candidate may also co-develop research grant applications, collaborate with stakeholders, develop policy briefs, scholarly outputs, and other knowledge mobilization products, and co-supervise undergraduate and graduate students, among other tasks.
The PDF will be well-positioned to flourish in an creative, interdisciplinary, and stakeholder-engaged research environment by bringing flexibility, self-motivation, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, while contributing as a collaborative team member. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary network spanning institutions across Canada, the United States, Europe, and other international settings. The PDF will be encouraged to publish extensively, further develop advanced research and technical skills,
strengthen an emerging research portfolio, gain experience in grant development, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in domestic and international field research, depending on the candidate’s interests and prior experience.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
- A doctoral degree by the appointment start date in a relevant field, such as Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Public Health, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Disaster Science, Migration Studies, or related research areas;
- Demonstrated proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research design (e.g., Epidemiology and Biostatistics), data analysis and interpretation, knowledge mobilization and ability to contribute to community-engaged research;
- Strong record of scholarly writing and peer-reviewed publications, as well as excellent oral communication skills for academic, professional, policy, and public audiences;
- Evidence of project management experience, including coordination of research activities, support for students and staff, and management of timelines, budgets and other project resources;
- Experience working in diverse and multicultural environments, with demonstrated cultural humility, intercultural competence, and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams and community partnerships.
Start date: The start date is flexible (anticipated June 1, 2026).

Salary Range/Pay Rate $51,250 - $70,000/year + benefits
