Job Description
Oulton College is seeking a faculty member with a Master's degree to teach a Sociology course within their degree program.
The course explores the bases of discrimination, exclusion, and inequity and experiences of racialized and poor persons, sex/gender minorities, and persons with various levels of visible and invisible abilities.
It is designed to help the student gain a greater understanding of, and have empathy for, some of the resulting lifelong experiences of individuals in their care.
The course start date is May 2026, offered in a 15-week semester (3 hours per week of teaching)
Key Responsibilities
> - Deliver course content through lectures

> - Facilitate student learning in areas including:

> 1. Identify research and theory that explains discrimination, exclusion, and inequity on various bases such as race/ethnicity, sex/gender, class, ability, and other factors.

>
> 2. Discuss some of the sociological, cultural, and economic origins, and experiences, that impact discrimination, exclusion, and inequity
>
>
> 3. Identify various ways that discrimination, exclusion, and inequity enter societal structures and processes and subsequently individual experiences.
>
>
>
>
>
> - Grade assignments, exams, and learning activities
>
>
> - Provide timely, constructive feedback to students
>
>
> - Foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment
>
>
> - Collaborate with faculty and program teams as required

Requirements
Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in Sociology or a closely related discipline
- Experience teaching at the post-secondary level, with demonstrated ability to engage and support degree-level learners, is considered a strong asset
- Strong understanding of learning outcomes, assessment design, and academic standards aligned with undergraduate education
- Excellent communication, organizational, and instructional skills
- Demonstrated ability to foster critical thinking, academic writing, and scholarly inquiry in students
