Based in Northern First Nations Communities (Regional)
The KIM team invites applicants to apply for the following exciting opportunity!
Under the direction of the Director of Strategic Communication and Issues Management or delegate, these roles act as a consistent, visible presence in the north. Community Navigators represent KIM at local events, support two-way communication, and contribute to sharing stories, updates, and information that reflect community priorities and experiences. Working closely with the Communications team and other KIM programs, the Community Liaison supports Nation-based engagement and helps ensure KIM’s work is accessible, relevant, and grounded in community relationships.
The ability to speak one of the northern First Nations languages is desirable. Candidates with roots to a northern First Nation community will be given preference.
The successful candidate will be responsible to
- Serve as a visible KIM presence across multiple communities within an assigned region
- Travel regularly to attend and represent KIM at local events, including health fairs, pow wows, Treaty Days, and community gatherings
- Support KIM booths and engagement activities with clear, accurate information
- Answer questions and provide general information about KIM programs and services
- Build and maintain relationships with community members, leaders, and partners across the region
- Act as a communication link between Nations and KIM
- Share community feedback, questions, and emerging issues with internal teams
- Support nation-based engagement approaches alongside program teams
- Collect and share community stories, successes, and local initiatives
- Conduct interviews and profile community members, health leaders, and programs
- Contribute content to KIM channels, including website and newsletter
- Capture photos and document events to support storytelling and reporting
- Translate written materials into Cree or Dene, where applicable
- Support the creation and dissemination of communications materials
- Participate in regular virtual check-ins with the Communications team
- Supports and educates the community-specific protocol and expectations
- Use Microsoft Teams and shared workflows to manage content and updates
- Other duties as assigned
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Experience working in or with northern First Nations communities
- Strong understanding of community engagement and relationship-based work
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently across multiple northern communities within an assigned region
- Ability to work independently while managing travel, scheduling, and community presence
- Ability to communicate clearly,
both verbally and in writing
- Experience with storytelling, interviewing, or content creation is an asset
- Comfort attending and representing at community events
- Basic skills in photography, documentation, or social content capture
- Ability to work independently in a regional setting while staying connected to a central team
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams or similar digital tools
- Knowledge of First Nations cultures, languages, and ways of working
- Ability to speak Dene is a requirement
The following are considered conditions of employment
- Must be able and willing to travel regularly across assigned northern communities
- Satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check
- Ability to travel within the region to attend community events
- Successful completion of required training (including PHIA, if applicable)
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
- Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable vehicle
- Access to the reliable internet
