IT Manager — Ecommerce, Odoo & Systems Operations, Chive · Toronto, ON (Hybrid) · Contract-to-Permanent
$80/hour · 2-month contract · High likelihood of permanent conversion · 10+ years required
This role begins as a 2-month contract at $80/hour with a high likelihood of conversion to a full time permanent position based on performance and fit.
About the role
Chive is a Toronto-based ceramic flower brand with 25 years of design heritage and placement in some of the world's most prestigious retail destinations. We operate multiple Shopify storefronts across different regions — retail and B2B wholesale — running on an interconnected stack of Odoo, ShipStation, and CRM tools.
We're looking for a hands-on IT Manager who sits at the centre of our technology operations: overseeing our external IT vendor to ensure work is delivered on time and to a high standard, driving Odoo implementation and customization, keeping our platform integrations healthy, and working shoulder-to-shoulder with the ops team on daily priorities. You're not just a technical lead — you're the person who makes sure things actually get done.
- Serve as the internal point of contact and accountability layer between Chive and our external IT vendor
- Translate business and ops requirements into clear, scoped briefs that the vendor can execute against
- Track active tasks and development tickets — enforcing timelines, flagging delays early, and driving to resolution
- Review vendor deliverables for quality, accuracy, and alignment with requirements before they reach production
- Hold regular check-ins with the vendor team to maintain momentum and surface blockers proactively
- Escalate and negotiate when priorities shift, scope creeps, or delivery standards fall short
- Maintain a running log of all vendor tasks, statuses, and outcomes for visibility across the internal team
Odoo — implementation & customization — a core technical focus
- Lead or complete Odoo implementation across relevant modules — inventory, sales, purchasing, CRM, and fulfilment
- Customize Odoo workflows, views, and business logic to meet the specific requirements of our operations team
- Build and maintain automated integrations between Odoo, Shopify, and ShipStation — including scheduled cron jobs to sync orders, inventory, fulfilment status, and customer data across platforms
- Design and implement custom Odoo modules or extensions where out-of-the-box functionality falls short
- Audit, deduplicate, and clean customer records across Odoo and connected systems — resolving data conflicts, merging duplicates, and enforcing field-level data standards
- Establish reliable data pipelines so that product, order, and customer data stays consistent across the full stack
- Document all customizations, integrations, and cron job configurations for long-term maintainability
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Work directly with the ops team to support daily tasks, unblock workflows, and keep operations running smoothly
- Oversee multi-store Shopify architecture across retail and wholesale channels in multiple countries
- Lead CRM strategy and hygiene — segmentation, automations, integrations, and lifecycle workflows
- Identify and reduce tech debt across the ecommerce stack; improve platform performance and reliability
What you bring
- 10+ years in IT management or ecommerce systems roles — multi-store, multi-currency, multi-region experience required
- A strong track record managing external IT vendors or development agencies — setting expectations, reviewing output, and holding teams accountable to timelines and quality standards
- Proven, hands-on Odoo experience: implementation, module customization, workflow design, and Python-level development or configuration
- Strong integration engineering ability — REST/JSON APIs, webhooks, and scheduled cron jobs connecting Odoo, Shopify, ShipStation, and CRM platforms
- Experience with customer data cleaning: deduplication, record merging, schema normalization, and data governance
- Deep Shopify expertise — B2B, markets, metafields, Shopify Flow, apps, and CSV operations
- Strong CRM architecture and automation experience
- Clear, direct communicator who can bridge technical and non-technical teams with equal ease
