About the job
In this position, you will:
- Conduct technical analysis and research that provides critical inputs to the transportation systems and policy planning, project appraisal, and strategic investment decisions that support the assessment of multimodal transportation infrastructure and policy initiatives.
- Analyze complex and large datasets and results, as well as develop quality control measures and identify key insights to inform the public and government decision makers.
- Apply data analytics and use programming languages and statistical analysis to support transportation modelling, analytics and data wrangling and interpretation.
- Support the development and application of complex multi‑modal transportation models, and mapping/visualizations.
- Critically evaluate transportation planning issues and proposals supported by objective assessments and high‑quality evidence.
- Support the planning, execution and management of passenger and freight surveys.
- Participate in studies involving transportation performance assessments, data collection and trend analysis to support system planning.
- Present results of analysis to a range of technical and non‑technical staff, and senior management to support evidence‑based planning.
- Participate in major planning and policy projects, and prepare reports, discussion papers, and research studies on major transportation system planning issues.
What you bring to the team
Technical Expertise
- Knowledge of travel demand forecasting and performance analysis.
- Experience in the application of statistical methods, and visualization/analysis of large datasets, including quality control, and in applying these tools to provide insights on transportation issues.
- Research and analytical skills to support transportation analyses.
- Knowledge of the theory principles, research methodologies, and practices of transportation modeling and transportation planning and policy.
Computer Proficiency and Programming Skills
- Proficiency in using common office productivity software.
- Knowledge of common transportation modelling software, such as EMME and/or TransCAD, and associated programming languages.
- Knowledge of GIS applications (e.g. Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS online or QGIS) or modules (e.g., Shapely or Geopandas).
- Knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools and techniques (e.g., Power BI, ArcGIS story maps, dashboards).
- Experience in desktop and enterprise relational database systems, managing data (e.g., data partitioning and distribution) and running simultaneous transactions to improve performance and access.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Communicate the results of technical analysis effectively to management, external stakeholders and non‑expert audiences.
- Build and maintain robust relationships with various stakeholders.
- Apply written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports and analyses.
Project Management Skills
- Plan, set priorities, and coordinate project activities with partners.
- Use sound judgement when consulting with stakeholders.
