Help shape how Ontario monitors and supports the financial health of its hospital sector. The Ministry of Health is seeking a Team Lead, Hospital Financial Oversight, to provide strategic leadership within the Hospitals and Capital Division. In this role, you will lead a skilled finance team that oversees hospital financial planning, reporting, and forecasting, and contributes to the design and implementation of a proactive financial oversight framework that strengthens insight into sector-wide risks, pressures, and trends affecting hospital funding. As an integral part of the Hospital Financial Oversight Unit, you will: lead and develop the finance team by setting strategic direction, sharing expertise, reviewing work, and supporting high-quality financial planning, analysis, and reporting across the division oversee financial planning and reporting for transfer payment and federal-provincial programs, including forecasts, in-year analysis, performance measures, and statutory or partner reporting strengthen financial controls and risk management by identifying and managing risks, maintaining effective internal controls, and supporting divisional assurance and compliance reporting drive improvement in systems and processes by leading business modernization and change initiatives that enhance efficiency, consistency, and the quality of financial information provide strategic financial advice to leadership by identifying issues and options, contributing to senior-level and cabinet submissions,
and working with other ministries and central agencies on complex financial matters What you bring to the team
Technical knowledge and experience You have knowledge of: Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Public Sector Accounting Board accounting standards, and financial and accounting theories and practices financial considerations, including directives and policies related to transfer payment control, financial oversight, cash management and administration in-year fiscal planning and expenditure management, as well as budgeting/forecasting You have experience: leading the development and implementation of a range of financial and business processing/operational policies/procedures and corporate systems to meet requirements Leadership and strategic advice skills
provide strategic and operational leadership and guidance to the unit, division and senior management to inform effective analysis, recommendations and decision-making related to forecasting and reporting lead the unit and cross-functional teams in financial analysis and business planning activities use strategic foresight when evaluating emerging trends and issues to assess the impact on the Division Interpersonal and communication skills
prepare communication materials, analysis, and central agency or equivalent corporate reporting materials for divisional leadership ensure financial standards are applied consistently and accurately, while offering strategic advice and influential recommendations build and maintain robust relationships with management, providing expert financial guidance collaborate with program areas and delivery partners to align fiscal strategies and drive improvements across divisional programs Technology skills
with operations and capabilities of large-scale systems for financial reporting (for example, IFIS, TPON, HDCS/SRI) to develop financial reporting requirements, create reports and meet ministry requirements for recording financial information and data using computer programs such as Excel for creating various materials, including financial modelling Don’t meet every qualification?
