Senior Mechanical Piping Designer Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada
Your future role on our team As a Senior Piping Designer you'll work on projects across the country, collaborating with engineers nationally and internationally to deliver top‑quality solutions in the mining and hydropower industries. You will use 2D and 3D software, mentor junior colleagues, and build lasting client relationships.
Responsibilities
Perform 3D piping modelling and generate deliverables such as isometric drawings, general arrangements, and piping plans.
Work with 3D scanning technology and point clouds.
Lead piping design scopes and supervise other piping designers.
Initiate development of all required discipline deliverables for assigned areas.
Manage and develop piping design estimates, budgets, schedules, and staffing needs.
Plan, develop, organize and control project‑specific criteria or standards.
Lead and prepare piping scope in proposals.
Collaborate with pipe stress engineers.
Receive and distribute design instructions and update master documents (PFD, P&ID;).
Assess client satisfaction, maintain close client relations, determine costs and quantities.
Support construction in the field with drawing and specification interpretations, design modifications, scheduling, and system checkout and testing.
Perform cross‑discipline checks of drawings and 3D models.
Conduct 3D model reviews internally and with clients.
Check and review isometrics and piping drawings.
Communicate with vendors and ensure vendor data is used efficiently.
Coach and mentor junior and intermediate designers.
Seek innovative solutions.
Perform other technical functions to help deliver projects.
Qualifications & Requirements
10+ years of relevant experience in piping layout and drafting in mining or hydropower.
Mechanical Engineering Technologist/Technician diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of mechanical/piping codes, building codes and standards.
Thorough understanding of mechanical/piping engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas.
Experience in a large multidisciplinary project environment.
Experience with greenfield and brownfield projects.
Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as Smart 3D, SolidWorks, CADworx, and AutoCAD.
Knowledge of 3D point clouds is an asset.
Initiative to identify tasks, take responsibility, and complete assignments.
Cooperative in a multidisciplinary team with priority on teamwork.
Bilingual (English and French) is an advantage but not required.
