The position of Cybersecurity and Resilience Specialist reports to the Manager, Information Technology and is pivotal in enhancing the organization’s cybersecurity posture through the appropriate tools, best practices, and robust security operations processes.
Opportunity
This role contributes to the development and execution of the enterprise-wide IT strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and delivering capabilities needed for success. It focuses on providing guidance based on the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and industry best practices, managing the Town’s cybersecurity training and phishing program, and continuously updating and testing the resiliency and emergency management plans—including the Business Continuity Plan, Disaster Recovery Plan, and Incident Response Plan. The specialist will secure the production environment against unauthorized access and integrity violations, maintain compliance with enterprise and business security policies, and develop and deliver training programs, manage vendor relationships, and ensure adherence to cybersecurity best practices. Strong strategic thinking and the ability to communicate complex technical information to non‑technical stakeholders are essential. As the Cybersecurity and Resilience Specialist , you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Security Monitoring and Response:
work closely with the Network and Infrastructure team and other IT staff to monitor and respond to detected security events; investigate the events and remediate accordingly.
- Implement and support technical cybersecurity solutions.
- Monitor and analyze security events across various IT systems to identify vulnerabilities and threats.
- Conduct cybersecurity reviews and assessments for new IT projects.
- Monitor and manage Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) systems.
- Develop, maintain and update standard cybersecurity documentation such as policies, principles, procedures, and standards, drawing upon existing security controls, processes, and industry best practices.
- Coordinate and support vulnerability and patch management policies and procedures to keep information systems up-to-date and to improve the process—identifying and analyzing vulnerabilities, assessing risks, testing and applying patches, verifying remediation, reporting outcomes, and improving the process by automation.
- Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a professional with a post‑secondary diploma in Information Security, Computer Science or a closely related field, coupled with a minimum of five years of experience utilizing Vulnerability & Compliance Monitoring tools, Security Information and Event Management Systems, business continuity planning,
and enterprise networking. A minimum of three years of direct experience in Cybersecurity Administration and operations, security patching, preferably in a municipal environment, is required. ITIL Foundation certification is mandatory, and certifications such as Security+, CySA+, CBCP, or CRISC, in progress or willing to obtain, are desirable.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of advanced endpoint protection, advanced perimeter protection, networking concepts, Active Directory, DNS, SIEM, and industry standards including CIS, ISO 27001, PCI, COBIT, NIST, and ITIL. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to articulate and exchange routine information, are essential.
This position offers a salary range of $106,444.72 to $133,055.90, plus a competitive benefit package. The role requires a flexible schedule, including onsite, remote, and after‑hours work as needed.
