We are currently seeking a positive and
energetic Recreation Manager
to play a key role in bringing this community to life. Being a brand-new community that just opened in December 2025, this is an exciting chance to grow with our community while building relationships, delivering results, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of residents and their families.
Key Accountabilities Programs & Resident Experience
Develop, implement, and evaluate diverse and meaningful recreation and wellness programs aligned with Chartwell’s Six Dimensions of Wellness (social, physical, intellectual, emotional, vocational, and spiritual).
Actively support, empower, and facilitate resident‑led programs, clubs, and interest groups, encouraging choice, autonomy, and resident leadership.
Create home‑specific programming that reflects the residence’s unique positioning and resident interests.
Continuously evaluate and enhance the resident experience through engaging, memorable, and inclusive activities.
Collaborate with the Marketing team to design signature events that support the residence’s business and occupancy goals.
Prepare and distribute communication tools such as newsletters, calendars, posters, notices, and digital communications.
Forecast, monitor, and manage the recreation department budget.
Support and enhance fundraising initiatives within the residence.
Lead, manage, and grow volunteer programs.
Oversee concierge‑style services and personalized resident offerings.
Community & Social Engagement
Build and maintain strong partnerships with community organizations, schools, cultural groups, and service providers.
Promote, showcase and drive a strong and engaging social media presence using the residence’s Facebook page and other platforms.
Leverage community resources to expand recreation, cultural, educational, and intergenerational opportunities for residents.
Customer Service & Chartwell Experience
Uphold exemplary customer service standards in all interactions with residents, families, visitors, and team members.
Take ownership of Chartwell’s signature experiential programs, including Welcome to Chartwell and Club Chartwell.
Serve as a visible ambassador of the Chartwell Experience within the residence and the broader community.
Leadership, Operations & Team Collaboration
Act as an integral part of the Residence Operations Team, working closely and collaboratively with all departments (Hospitality, Sales, Wellness, Maintenance, Administration).
Contribute to operational planning, special events, move‑ins, tours, and special initiatives that enhance resident satisfaction.
Supervise, coach, and support recreation team members.
Complete payroll and employment-related documentation accurately and on time.
Participate in the Manager‑on‑Duty rotation, including some weekends.
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, fire, and Infection Prevention and Control policies.
Proactively identify and report hazards, ensuring a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Participate in Resident Council meetings, where applicable.
Communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Collaboratively support the smooth daily operation of the residence.
Qualifications Education
Post‑secondary education in Recreation, Gerontology, Social Work, Hospitality, Event Management, or equivalent experience working with older adults.
Valid Class 4 Driver’s License. (willing to get within 2 months of hire date)
First Aid Certificate (training can be provided).
Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in recreation, life enrichment, community engagement, or a related role.
Skills & Abilities
Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship‑building skills.
Passion for resident‑centered experiences and supporting resident choice and leadership.
Highly organized with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute programs effectively.
Comfortable working independently and supervising others.
Strong operational awareness and ability to partner across departments.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital communication tools.
Creative, adaptable, and solution‑focused.
Effort & Working Conditions
Includes light to moderate physical activity such as bending, reaching, lifting, and standing.
Requires cognitive effort associated with planning, coordination, and social interaction.
Personal protective equipment worn as required.
Some local travel may be required.
Availability for occasional evenings and weekends.
