Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as an Intermediate Engineer (Mechanical). In this position, you will play a key role in being responsible for project management and project delivery for a midstream oil pipeline.
The successful candidate will demonstrate mechanical engineering expertise, support the specification, installation, and maintenance of equipment and ensure compliance with Trans Mountain and industry standards (API, ASME) relevant to mechanical equipment while optimizing reliability, safety, and performance.
This position offers the opportunity to provide technical leadership, vendor coordination, and mentorship to support successful sustaining capital project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and approve technical specifications and datasheets for mechanical equipment in midstream pipeline applications, ensuring alignment with project and process requirements.
- Support department project engineering by consulting on mechanical scope deliverables, participating in HAZOP reviews, and ensuring mechanical systems are designed and installed in accordance with project timelines and cost controls.
- Ensure compliance with TM standards and international codes (API, ASME, ISO, NACE)
- Perform mechanical inspections, oversee QA/QC activities, and sign off on ITPs and test results.
- Act as project manager for sustaining capital projects, moving projects from initial FEED through design, execution, commissioning and turnover to operations.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required
- P. Eng Designation with Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA) is required.
- 5 to 8 years of experience in the midstream industry is preferred
- PMP certification or PMI registration considered an asset
- Pipeline engineering and operational experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, facility operations, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven ability to manage budgets,
contracts, and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- A track record of delivering high‑quality work, managing competing priorities, and supporting key business processes or operational functions.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and levels across the organization.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly, respectfully, and professionally.
- Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast‑paced workplace.
- Commitment to inclusive practices and a willingness to contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive workplace culture.
Working Conditions
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- May need to provide support outside of regular business hours and/or on the weekend.
