The opportunity
To strengthen our growing Mining & Metals focus, we have an opportunity for a Senior Consultant to join our Supply Chain Consulting team. We are seeking a true team player with a strong work ethic, experience in mining operations and an established consulting skillset or a demonstrable ambition to develop these. This individual will focus on assisting clients in areas such as operations transformations, asset management transformations, and supply chain transformations, among other areas as required to meet operational goals. Through formal and on‑the‑job training, and experience of working with a range of global organizations, we’ll help you achieve your potential. Your key responsibilities
As a Senior Consultant, you’ll contribute to Supply Chain & Operations client engagements and internal projects with a bias to Mining & Metals industry projects. An important part of your role will be to actively establish, maintain and strengthen internal and external relationships; identify potential business opportunities for EY within existing engagements; and elevate these as appropriate. You’ll work in a team with a specific workstream focus to deliver and exceed expectations, anticipate and manage risks, and raise any issues with senior team members. You’ll confirm that work is of high quality and is reviewed by the next‑level reviewer. As an influential member of the team, you’ll help to create a positive learning culture, coach and counsel junior team members, and help them develop.
Skills and attributes for success
Participate in client engagements that transform operations through a cross‑disciplinary approach
Assist with the review, assessment and improvement of operations, maintenance and supply‑chain functions
Deliver high‑quality work products within expected timeframes and on budget
Provide insight by using robust data analytics
Develop and maintain working relationships with client personnel at appropriate levels
Work effectively as a team member, sharing responsibility,
providing support, maintaining communication and updating senior team members on progress
Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills
Operations and/or maintenance experience ideally including optimization or debottlenecking
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
Ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders and coach individuals in best practices
To qualify for the role you must have
Outstanding academic record including a bachelor’s degree (emphasis on Engineering, Business, Supply Chain or Logistics); a graduate degree is preferred
Experience with managing and/or improving operations, maintenance or supply‑chain performance in a mining environment (gold, base metals, PGMs etc.) through focused interventions
Expertise in one or more operations excellence transformations, operating system design and implementation, operations and/or maintenance management, process debottlenecking, Lean/Six‑Sigma, asset management/maintenance optimization and operations cost reduction
A willingness to travel to meet client needs (when it is safe); the SC&O; practice is national and travel may be required
Ideally, you’ll also have
Contribute to the growth and development of the Consulting practice and the Mining & Metals focus
Maintain an educational program to continually develop technical capabilities and professional knowledge
Understand and follow workplace policies and procedures
Remain current on new developments in consulting services capabilities and industry knowledge
Familiarity with the enablement of operations, maintenance and supply‑chain processes using digital solutions
