Under the supervision of the Plumbing Team Lead, the Mechanical Tech II will assist the Mechanical Engineering Department/Plumbing Division in drafting of buildings in the residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors. They will be required to work with the mechanical design and engineering team in producing drawings for permit and construction. The Mechanical Tech II will be expected to work both independently and within the project group to facilitate the design requirements to reach project completion. They will also be encouraged to take on special project tasks to help promote efficiencies of current design procedures and will have the opportunity to attend occasional site visits to provide practical feedback to complement completed design work.
Duties and Responsibilities
Drafting or designing of plumbing systems and components such as gas piping, below and above grade sanitary and storm system piping, domestic water systems, pumps, etc.
Coordinate with the project lead, engineering team and other design disciplines as required
Assist with engineering analysis, evaluations, designs, and implementation for plumbing systems
Work through construction support issues with design team and contractors
Occasional site visits as required
Accept technical guidance from designers,
technologists, and senior staff
Provide guidance and assistance to junior staff members
Assist with Project Coordination duties such as logging, plotting, issuing drawings, etc.
Other tasks as assigned by Mechanical Leads or Mechanical Division Manager
Qualifications
4-8 years of relatable experience in building design, specifically plumbing design and/or installation
Diploma in Architectural Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technologist or equivalent
Experience working with other design professionals within the building/construction industry
Excellent drafting skills
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization
Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office; Revit considered an asset
Commitment to ongoing qualified and personal growth; willingness to learn
Ability to work both independently with little supervision and in a team environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Adaptable and flexible to changing priorities
Admirable problem-solving skills and initiative
Capable of working on and/or managing several projects at the same time
Eligibility for registration with OACETT preferred
