The Chance
A well-established, engineering-focused manufacturing organization is seeking an Estimator to support cost analysis and quoting for machined parts and components. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate, competitive pricing by analyzing technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
The Estimator will work cross-functionally with internal teams and act as a key point of contact for clients throughout the quoting process, ensuring clarity, responsiveness, and a high level of customer satisfaction.
What You’ll Do
Cost Estimation
- Analyze technical drawings, specifications, and documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates
- Calculate material costs, labor, machine time, and other production expenses
- Develop cost models to support competitive and profitable pricing strategies
Proposal Preparation
- Prepare detailed quotes and proposals including scope, assumptions, exclusions, and timelines
- Validate estimates with internal teams to ensure accuracy and completeness
Technical Analysis
- Assess manufacturing feasibility and identify risks within machining processes
- Recommend cost-effective alternatives to meet customer requirements
- Stay current on industry trends, materials, and machining technologies
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with sales, engineering, production, and purchasing teams to gather key inputs
- Communicate directly with customers to clarify requirements and discuss estimates
- Support sales efforts during proposal and negotiation stages
- Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues to maintain strong relationships
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain detailed records of estimates, quotes, and revisions
- Generate cost analysis reports and provide insights to leadership
- Track estimate accuracy versus actual costs and implement improvements
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in cost estimation within machining or manufacturing
- Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and manufacturing methods
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with estimation tools and Microsoft Office
Nice to Have
- Experience with pressure vessels, tanks, or mixing systems
