Penalta Group Ltd. is an Oakville-based general contractor with over 27 years of experience delivering commercial, institutional, and industrial construction projects across the GTA. We are a lean, hands-on team of approximately 50 people who take our work seriously and hold ourselves to a high standard on every project we take on.

We are growing our industrial and ICI capabilities and are looking for a Site Superintendent who brings the experience and the drive to help us get there.

THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced Site Superintendent to join our team on a permanent basis. You will take full ownership of site operations on a 12-month self-storage construction project starting in May 2026, working directly alongside our project management team on a Construction Management (CM) delivery model.

This project involves significant civil challenges including retaining wall construction, soil removal, shale (rock) excavation, and pre-cast concrete panel erection. This is a hands-on, site-based role where you will be the lead presence on-site and the main point of contact for specialized trade contractors.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

- Own the full day-to-day operation of the construction site from mobilization through substantial completion
- Lead and coordinate civil, structural, and envelope trades with particular focus on retaining wall contractors, excavation crews, and pre-cast erection teams
- Manage complex site sequencing around heavy civil work, rock excavation, and pre-cast panel installation; develop and maintain look-ahead schedules that account for civil dependencies
- Run trade foreman meetings and keep all parties aligned on priorities, sequencing, and safety protocols for civil and pre-cast operations
- Maintain full oversight of safety, quality control, and documentation with particular attention to excavation safety, retaining wall installation tolerances, and pre-cast panel alignment
- Conduct daily site reports, toolbox talks, site inspections, and hazard assessments with focus on civil work safety protocols




- Liaise with the PM team, owner's representatives, geotechnical consultants, structural engineers, and municipal inspectors on CM project requirements
- Manage on-site logistics including specialized civil equipment, material deliveries for pre-cast panels, laydown areas, and site access coordination
- Identify civil and structural issues early and bring solutions to the team before they affect cost or schedule
- Enforce Penalta's safety program and all OHSA requirements with particular emphasis on excavation, confined space, and crane operation safety
- Support project closeout including deficiency tracking, inspections, and handover documentation per CM delivery requirements

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Experience & Background

- Minimum 8 years of experience as a Site Superintendent on civil-intensive construction projects in Ontario
- Proven experience with retaining wall construction, soil removal, and rock/shale excavation on commercial or industrial projects
- Solid hands-on experience with pre-cast concrete panel erection, including crane operations, panel alignment, and connection details
- Experience working on Construction Management (CM) project delivery including coordination with owner's representatives and consultant team
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple specialized trade contractors simultaneously on complex civil projects
- Self-storage, warehouse, or multi-bay industrial construction experience is a strong asset
- Comfortable working on projects with challenging site conditions and technical civil requirements

Technical Skills

- Proficient in Procore or equivalent construction management software for reporting, RFIs, and deficiency tracking on CM projects




- Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, geotechnical, and architectural drawings with focus on retaining wall details and pre-cast connection drawings
- Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, OHSA requirements, and civil construction standards
- Valid Working at Heights certification required; confined space, crane signaling, and excavation safety credentials are strong assets
- Experience with Bluebeam, MS Office, or other field tools is an asset
