Our team members provide caring services to residents and clients throughout Saskatchewan in our Seniors Independent Living Communities, Intermediate Care Homes, Long‑Term Care, Group Homes for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities, and programs like the Seniors Day Program and the Luther Seniors Centre.

The Position In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, and with funding from Canada Summer Jobs, we are seeking (2) Summer Recreation Programmers to join our Group Home team.
Start Date: To be determined in May/June, and will continue into the summer months.
Eligibility This position is only available to youth who:
are between the age of 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons whose refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
are legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
Responsibilities Program Planning & Preparation
Assist in planning and preparing meaningful recreational activities tailored to the interests and abilities of residents.
Help develop structured daily and weekly activity schedules (arts, music, games, sensory activities, light fitness, community outings).
Prepare activity materials, set up rooms, and ensure supplies are organized.
Activity Facilitation
Support team members in leading group and one‑on‑one activities that encourage socialization, creativity, and life‑skills development.
Lead simple programs such as crafts, puzzles, storytelling, baking assistance, music sessions, or outdoor walks (under supervision).
Modify activities to meet different ability levels and promote full participation.
Resident Engagement & Support
Encourage residents to join activities by offering positive, respectful invitations.
Provide patient, supportive assistance to individuals who need help understanding instructions or using materials.
Build trusting, friendly relationships that support communication, confidence, and self‑expression.
Community Inclusion
Support supervised community outings such as park visits, library trips, or participation in local events.
Help residents practice social skills, safety skills, and independence during outings.
Safety & Well‑Being
Ensure activity spaces are safe, accessible, and free of hazards.
Observe and report any behavioural, emotional, or health concerns to the Recreation and Development Manager.
Follow all safety protocols related to mobility, sensory needs, behavioural support, and emergency procedures.
Support residents respectfully without providing personal care unless trained and authorized.
Behavioral & Communication Support
Use positive, calming communication strategies when interacting with residents.Provide reassurance, redirection,
or structured choices when needed (training will be provided).
Respect each resident’s communication style—verbal, nonverbal, gestures, or assistive devices.
Documentation & Administrative Support
Assist with recording participation or progress notes as directed by team members.
Help update activity calendars, bulletin boards, and communication materials.
Support in organizing program files, supply inventories, and activity kits.
Work closely with support workers, supervisors, and other team members.
Participate in Group Home meetings or briefings to understand resident needs and program goals.
Share observations about resident engagement to help improve program planning.
Relationship Building & Inclusion
Promote a positive, encouraging environment where each resident feels valued and included.
Foster social interaction between residents through group games and cooperative activities.
Respect cultural, emotional, and personal preferences of each individual.
Qualifications & Other Requirements
Preference will be given to those enrolled in a secondary school or post‑secondary trades.
A valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.
Experience working with seniors is an asset.
Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
Applicants must be physically able to perform the job duties.
Applicants must provide a criminal background check prior to employment.
