Reporting to the Program Manager, Transportation, the Transportation Electrical Designer
isresponsible for providing overhead and underground electrical infrastructure design and drafting.
Responsibilities:
Take on a Designer/Drafter role within an established team of engineers, designers, and drafters focused on street lighting and traffic signals projects.
Accountable for delivering design (on schedule and within budget) and coordinating with clients and other engineering consultants.
Perform project-related design tasks as required:
Lighting calculations (AGI32 or Visual), voltage drop, pole loading, load calculations, and cost estimates.
Create engineering drawings as per required standards using AutoCAD, MAP3D, and GIS systems.
Perform site investigations, installation reviews and produce deficiency reports as required.
Support the strategy of specializing the department and being part of a technical delivery center of excellence within the company.
Coordinate designs with customers, municipal authorities, utilities & various project stakeholders.
Initiate and partake in customer and stakeholder meetings.
When required, attend off-site meetings with the client, civil consultant and/or contractor.
Other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
A Diploma (or degree)
in the Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or similar.
Great interpersonal skills with the ability to develop business relationships conducted in a professional manner.
Strong team-oriented skills and willingness to liaise with other disciplines (drafting, construction, survey, and civil engineering) to ensure projects are accurate, compliant, on time, and on budget.
1 to 3 years of electrical experience.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Additional Assets:
Membership with ASTTBC and the designation (or eligibility) of AScT would be an asset.
Experience performing electrical site inspections, construction supervision, and contract administration.
Experience in lighting or traffic signals would be considered an asset.
Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering various projects with large size and scope.
Strong interpersonal communications skills applicable both internally with project delivery staff as well as externally with project partners (clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities).
Self-starter, accountable for one’s work andcontinuous improvement.
Salary Range: $28.00 – $34.00 per hour
