Sedgman is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Piping) for their Vancouver office. The ideal candidate will have mechanical design experience working on mining and heavy industrial projects—from conceptual design and studies through to project completion—and a strong knowledge of piping, platework, and mechanical process equipment. This individual will be responsible for a variety of tasks, ranging from engineering design, equipment selection, on‑site support, and quality control. They will participate in all project phases, studies, detailed engineering design, construction, and commissioning, ensuring that engineering functions are completed efficiently and are technically compliant. What does this role involve?

Main Responsibilities

Provide technical direction and guidance to project staff to ensure goals and objectives are achieved efficiently and economically. Work on mining and industrial designs, piping and equipment layouts, mechanical equipment selections and integration, fluid and slurry pumping equipment and piping, etc. Participate in all project phases including scoping, feasibility, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, field engineering, and business development. Prepare and review Mechanical Equipment Lists, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs;). Lead and perform mechanical design tasks during detailed design, including interfacing with vendors, reviewing vendor data, and releasing engineering drawings for construction. Participate in design review workshops and coordinate other members of the mechanical team to complete any actions.



Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers and technical staff to develop solutions based on engineering calculations and simulations. Support procurement, construction, and site activities including package development, vendor coordination, and bid reviews. Monitor compliance with design, identify potential or actual non‑conformances and document for resolution. Lead responses to queries from construction personnel—including risk assessment, quality observations, RFIs, technical queries, and construction planning—with associated staff and subcontractors. Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development efforts. Promote a strong safety culture and adhere to company policies and procedures. Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards. Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness. Work in a safe manner at all times. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. 15+ years of relevant work experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing junior engineers on projects.



Previous experience on mining infrastructure projects is required; experience on a mine or construction site is highly desired. Registered Skilled Engineer (EGBC). Demonstrated ability to lead small project teams in mechanical design. Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project or Primavera P6 is highly desired. Contract administration exposure is an asset. Ability to safely and effectively self‑manage time, priorities, and activities. Relevant mechanical engineering experience, preferably in mining or related sectors. Familiarity with engineering analysis software. Experience with industrial plant layout, pumping and piping systems, conveyors, HVAC, and material handling equipment. Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. Eligibility to work in Canada without sponsorship. Benefits

USD 160,000 – 180,000 per year, commensurate with education, experience, and market conditions at the time of hire.
