Overview

Role and Facility Information: Kamloops is a vibrant city of 100,000, set on a vast and rugged landscape of sandstone canyons, grasslands and evergreen timberlands. The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a 273-bed facility that serves as the referral centre for approximately 250,000 people, located in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area. RIH is one of two Interior Health tertiary referral hospitals with an Emergency Department that receives over 250 major trauma and 62,000 visits per year. The Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Tower at RIH opened in the summer of 2022 and includes a new operating room and surgical services suite, additional beds, obstetric services, labour and delivery, respiratory therapy services, mental health and substance use inpatient units, and a rooftop helipad. Kamloops offers high-level, specialty medical care, 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Ambulatory and Outpatient Clinics, and Diagnostic Services. The department supports a broad range of specialties and services, including Acute Inpatient Psychiatry, Tertiary Inpatient and Community Psychiatric Services, non-interventional Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Gastroenterology, diagnostic imaging and related labs. RIH features include a Clinical Neurophysiology Lab and Sleep Lab, 1.5T MRI, CT, Echocardiography, Stroke programs, and a High Acuity Response Team (HART) for remote emergency transport. The surgical services roster includes General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Orthopedic Surgery, and 24/7 Anesthesia coverage.

Practice Details

We are able to practice to the scope of our specialty. Our nursery cares for babies 30 weeks and up,



with 1,200–1,400 births per year in a consultative role. We are well supported by a local OB Internal Medicine service and the Diabetes Education Program. Our department supports the UBC Physician Training at the MSIA Level, the FP Resident Level, and the OB/GYN R4 Level. There are opportunities to share existing office space within the community.

Responsibilities

- Provide obstetric and related clinical care within the department, with nursery responsibilities for babies 30 weeks and up (consultative role for births).
- Collaborate with OB Internal Medicine and Diabetes Education Program teams to support patient care and education.
- Support and participate in training programs (UBC Physician Training at MSIA Level, FP Resident Level, OB/GYN R4 Level).
- Contribute to a multidisciplinary team and participate in service delivery within the hospital and community setting.

Compensation and Advantages

- Compensation Type: Clinical Service Contract; Estimated Remuneration for hospital-based obstetrics and unscheduled gynecology is paid through an APP contract above APSA rates, prorated for $7117 per 24h with a typical call frequency of 1:8.
- Scheduled gynecology and office practice paid through fee-for-service (FFS) with a total combined annual estimated salary range of approximately $600,000. Potential to earn more based on productivity; split between hospital-based and clinic-based work.
- Physicians can work up to 1800 hours per year for 1.0 FTE, or choose partial FTE and split between private practice.
- Relocation Assistance: Applicable for 1.0 FTE positions, $9,000 - $15,000 based on move location (with eligible receipts).
