Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer- Data Centre to contribute to Bell’s groundbreaking national AI Fabric program—an ambitious initiative positioning Canada as a global leader in Sovereign AI. This program is building a secure, coast to coast AI compute fabric that will accelerate innovation, strengthen national technological independence, and power the next generation of AI driven services. In this role, you will design and shape the mechanical systems that form the backbone of advanced data centres supporting massive GPU clusters, mission-critical AI workloads, and some of the most demanding thermal environments in the country. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a high impact national mission while applying deep mechanical engineering expertise to systems that will define the future of Canadian AI capability.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the design, review, and optimization of mechanical systems for new data centre builds, expansions, and retrofits.
- Develop detailed mechanical design packages, including HVAC layouts, airflow models, cooling system sizing, and chilled water/air cooled system designs.
- Evaluate and plan mechanical infrastructure including CRAC/CRAH units, liquid cooling systems, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps, and high density cooling solutions for GPU intensive workloads.
- Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers, construction teams, operational staff, and external suppliers to ensure systems meet performance, reliability, and compliance requirements.
- Conduct site assessments, capacity planning, thermal modeling,

and risk evaluations to validate mechanical readiness for high density AI workloads. Provide technical oversight on procurement specifications for mechanical equipment and validate vendor solutions against engineering and operational requirements.
- Support commissioning activities including FAT, SAT, integrated systems testing, and verification of cooling performance.
- Develop and refine preventive maintenance programs for mechanical systems to ensure long term operational reliability and minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate and up to date documentation including design packages, operational procedures, system standards, and as-built records.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in mechanical cooling strategies, with a focus on resiliency, energy efficiency, sustainability, and scalability.

Critical Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; P.Eng or eligibility for professional licensure preferred.
- 5–10+ years of experience in mechanical design for mission critical facilities (data centres, telecommunications, industrial HVAC, or similar).
- Strong expertise in cooling technologies and thermal management for high density compute environments.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, CSA, OBC, NFPA, TIA 942, etc.).

- Experience with modeling and design tools (AutoCAD, Revit, CFD software, or equivalent).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage cross functional teams and external partners.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and system level thinking capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience supporting operations teams with troubleshooting, cooling optimization, and maintenance planning.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency practices, sustainable design strategies, and PUE optimization.
- Experience with emerging cooling technologies (liquid to chip cooling, immersion cooling, rear door heat exchanger).

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
