StreetLight Data is seeking a curious, data‑driven, detail‑oriented intern to join our Data and Metrics Quality team this summer. They will contribute to a data quality effort focused on vehicular counter data, a fundamental input to our vehicular volume models deployed across a suite of products lines. This work will help ensure StreetLight’s metrics appropriately meet real‑world expectations and customer scenarios.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate outliers and other data anomalies present in our permanent counter datasets.
- Implement changes and edits to permanent counter locations to support improvements in modelling processes.
- Propose improvements or changes to existing counter quality criteria.
- Effectively communicate results to stakeholders, providing thorough documentation and supporting visualizations of data for informed decision‑making.
- Collaborate with other Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Product Managers to ensure data sources meet quality standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A student currently pursuing a graduate degree in Urban Planning, Transportation, or a related Engineering discipline from a top university.
Undergraduate applicants pursuing similar fields may also be considered.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and methodical in reporting and documenting work.
- Strong analytical skills, experience using data to solve problems, inform decision making, and tell stories.
- Experience working with geospatial data (ArcGIS or QGIS).
- Familiarity with SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL or BigQuery preferred).
- Familiarity with data science and/or statistics, using tools such as Python or R.
- Very robust communication skills – written, visual (presentations) and verbal.
- Quick learner and a strong team player.
The base salary range for this position is $56,000.00 to $56,160.00. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across British Columbia, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
