Yonge North York Business Improvement Area (BIA) serves 1600 member businesses and commercial property owners in the area along Yonge between the 401 and Bishop Avenue. Our vision is to be the preferred destination in North Toronto for businesses, residents, visitors and workers to live, work and play. Assisting our members and delivering relevant support is a priority.
Key Accountabilities
- Assisting the Executive Director with the updating of select HR, ai, and volunteer policies and tools.
- Recruitment, management and organization of onboarding for volunteers from diverse demographics, including youth.
- Festival and event day support including coordination and leadership with volunteer oversight, scheduling and experience.
- Providing post-event feedback and recommendations for staffing and volunteer operations for future events.
- Communications support with the community, staff, volunteers and member business or property owners.
- Researching and providing recommendations for improved procedures or technologies to better support our organization's staffing and volunteer participation.
- Assist with other research projects such as with regards to our office sector.

Core Competencies:
- Some relevant post-secondary education; or a relevant combination of skills/qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, customer service and persuasion
- Able to work with minimal supervision or in a team
- Creativity, critical thinking, organizational skills, and adept communication skills.
- Adept with technology, office or google suite, Ai, design, and able to support the application of new technology.
Additional Preferred Skills (Not Required):
- A preference for those who can communicate effectively in one or more languages prevalent in the community, such as Korean, Mandarin, or Cantonese, or Farsi, enhancing engagement with various cultural groups.
- Knowledge of the local area and business community is beneficial.

Start Date: May 25, 2026
Hours: Contract (9 weeks); 30 hours/week;
Wage: $19.50/hour (semi-monthly pay periods)

Other Requirements:
Able to follow COVID-19 protocols when required including wearing a mask. Ability to interact positively with multiple individuals. Ability to traverse as a pedestrian and via TTC (fare provided) to visit member businesses in our area. Working home office wifi required in case of periodic work from home. Ability to lift 15lbs to assist with events and volunteer training.
This position is contingent on grant funding from the Federal Government. The candidate will be required to meet eligibility requirements for the Canada Summer Jobs Program including being between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations. International students are not eligible.
