Based in the Montreal project office during the design and planning phase, the Mechanical Discipline Lead will work closely with the Engineering Director and other discipline leads. This role plays a central part in shaping the project’s mechanical systems, ensuring technical quality and alignment across engineering activities. Occasional travel to site will be required.

Responsibilities

Provide technical guidance and supervision to the engineering team.

Participate in the department’s design and development processes.

Establish and communicate engineering guidelines for the discipline that will be applied throughout the project.

Ensure engineering processes are followed and optimized and provide clear instructions to service providers on how to adhere to them.





Ensure that engineering quality processes are fully implemented.

Ensure that design standardization is applied across the project to improve efficiency and consistency of outcomes.

Oversee the integration of the discipline’s scope across various areas of application.

Ensure that the mechanical discipline remains aligned with the requirements and needs of other engineering disciplines.

Approve engineering deliverables on behalf of the owner team and ensure that all designs meet site standards and support project objectives.

Monitor engineering productivity and take appropriate action when required, including establishing recovery plans.

Approve specialized suppliers and service providers within the discipline.

Ensure that technical designs for all disciplines consider and support efficient construction, commissioning, and long‑term operation.

Manage the discipline’s cost and schedule to ensure adherence to project plans.

Qualifications

Degree in mechanical engineering and at least 10 years of engineering experience in an industrial environment, including several years in mining, ideally underground.

Excellent understanding of engineering principles applied to mining facilities, including the design, integration, and maintenance of heavy mechanical equipment.

Expertise in mining mechanical systems including underground ventilation, pumping systems, conveyors, hoisting systems, material handling equipment,



and backfill infrastructure.

Proficiency in relevant Canadian and international standards (e.g., CSA, ASME, API, ISO), including those related to mining equipment safety.

Experience in supervising and technically validating complex mechanical installations.

Strong technical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Collaboration with other engineering disciplines, functions, and service providers.

Previous exposure to project delivery using the IAGC (EPCM) methodology.

Bilingualism (French and English).

Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across disciplines.

Analytical skills, independence, rigor, and the ability to handle stress and deadlines.
