MTI is looking for a motivated engineer to join our Calibration team. We are specifically looking for an individual experienced/knowledgeable in gasoline engines and OBD calibration. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 5+ years postgraduate experience in a relevant position. The Sr. Project Engineer opportunity requires a candidate with strong communication skills as this position will directly interface with the customer and internal teams.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis or qualify for a TN Visa. Employer will only sponsor an applicant qualified for a TN Visa for this position.
Skill Team Roles
Defines, plans, and performs engine, powertrain, and vehicle OBD calibration and validation activities in accordance with project requirements
Performs hands‑on OBD calibration and validation for gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicle programs in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements (EPA, CARB, EU, etc.)
Calibrates and validates OBD monitors, as applicable
Plans and executes vehicle, chassis dynamometer, engine dynamometer, and road testing activities, including hot, cold, altitude, seasonal, and durability testing
Independently plans and executes development and validation trips and test campaigns
Analyzes measurement and calibration data, identifies root causes, and implements calibration or logic improvements
Supports OBD demonstrations, audits, self‑certification testing, recalls, and field issue investigations
Ensures data quality and prepares technical documentation, calibration reports,
and validation evidence
Coordinates technical activities, schedules, and issue resolution with internal teams, suppliers, and OEM customers
Reviews engineering work for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements
Supports, organizes, and participates in customer technical meetings
Performs other duties as required to ensure project success
Education and Experience
Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in OBD calibration and validation
Demonstrated experience working directly on vehicles in a development or validation environment
Experience supporting OEM or Tier‑1 customer programs
Qualifications/Skills Strong understanding of diagnostics and regulatory requirements, including:
OBDII
HDOBD
EOBD or EMD
Calibration, development and production implementation experience with one or more of the following engine types
Gasoline and spark‑ignited engines
Hybrid and electrified powertrain systems
Independent functionality in multiple diagnostics areas, including
Base engine and powertrain diagnostics calibration
Catalyst and aftertreatment monitor calibration
Emissions threshold calibration and testing
Scan tool function validation
Fault path and inhibit matrix calibration
CCM calibration
OBDII self‑certification testing
Durability fleet diagnostic data analysis and issue resolution
Post‑production OBD validation and documentation
Durability and fleet diagnostic data analysis and issue resolution
Tools and Software
Working experience with calibration and measurement tools such as:
ETAS INCA
ATI Vision
Experience with data analysis and post‑processing tools including:
ETAS MDA
AVL CAMEO
AVL Concerto
Programming and Automation
Experience with MATLAB / Simulink
C/C++, Python, VBA, or similar scripting experience for data analysis and automation
Additional Skills Required
Robust analytical and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks across concurrent projects
Strong documentation and technical communication skills
Willingness to work on‑site at OEM or test facilities and travel as required
Valid driver’s license
