Summary The Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads as well as develops the Manufacturing Engineering team whilst maintaining a Safety-First approach in all activities. This role drives manufacturing excellence by running the daily business in line with the budget and optimizing structures as well as processes by applying Lean Manufacturing methods and sharing best practices in global teams. Together with the team, this role ensures that equipment is specified correctly and complies with branch/country/region standards. As part of the Branch Management Team the role has close interactions with all areas to establish efficient processes to meet our customers’ needs.
Responsibilities
Leading a safety-first approach maintaining a zero-accident culture. Ensures and monitors work, accident prevention and environmental protection regulations of the facility to assure a safe and productive work environment free of any liabilities or defects. Ensures equipment safety is always met by making sure that equipment safety specifications are correct and fulfilled and branch/country/regional safety standards are adhered to.
Develops and manages within the Manufacturing Engineering budget. Monitors quality and quantity of output of processes; takes appropriate action, including shutdown, to prevent scrap and assists others in investigations to determine causes of process defects, and downtime.
Supports in DFM and DFSS in new product development. Designs and develops new manufacturing processes (including equipment specifications to support RFQ process) in line with latest technology advancements within global manufacturing standards.
Prepares, reviews and submits manufacturing input into the quote cycle that ensures alignment with capabilities and competitiveness in the market.
Leads team responsible for PLC control systems and Vision inspection systems and design of mechanical systems and tools to manufacture parts.
Maintains document control and bills of material in ERP and IT systems.
Tracks and executes requests for quote (RFQ’s) from Sales team through generation of manufacturing and tooling plans,
costing estimates, and quotations for manufactured parts and tooling.
Manages internal machine shop processes and injection mold design/repair processes.
Serves as an action oriented, collaborative member of the local Branch Leadership Team.
Represents the local Branch for technical engineering competence with Global functional teams supporting business activities.
Optimizes manufacturing efficiency / lean excellence through flexible manufacturing structure, improvement through Lean Manufacturing methods within operations and optimizes production utilization and strategy. Maintains a culture of functional and Operational Excellence, supports 5S and lean initiatives.
Ensure PFMEA, Process Flows and Work instructions are created and maintained. Manages plant layout to support lean process flow and optimization of total facility footage.
Establishes and maintains appropriate internal capabilities and strengthens the organization (Succession Planning) through training, career development opportunities and recruiting as necessary to achieve Manufacturing objectives.
Adherence to internal and external business processes and certifications synonymous with a large US Incorporation operating within the Automotive Industry and all other local legal requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree of technical studies (e.g. Mechanical, Industrial Engineering)
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operational leadership
Automotive experience
Experience in people management
Experience in project management
Experience in workplace design and product development is an asset
Compensation Salary ranges from $100,000 to $110,000 based on experience.
