Field Associate
The Field Associate is responsible for contributing to an R&D; Field Trial program in crops such as wheat, canola, corn, soybeans, or cotton, depending on the region. Primary responsibilities include coordinating with growers on leased land space; assisting with acquiring and supervising local staffing during in‑season activities; and assisting with conducting in‑season research activities such as phenotyping, study management, and data analytics review as part of overseeing and executing research trials that feed the R&D; pipeline. The role partners with other Field Associates on site as well as other cross‑site functions on initiatives to improve data quality, standard operating procedures, or quality/compliance actions. This is an 18‑month term position which can be a Development Assignment or a Contract position, based out of the Saskatoon Research Farm.
What you will do
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of the research program in alignment with Bayer’s HSE (Health, Safety, & Workplace) Quality, Compliance and Stewardship requirements, and Business Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
- Collaborate with project team members to deliver detailed experimental protocols that enable advancement decisions by our scientists and placement decisions for our customers.
- Work on operation of research equipment, note‑taking, and data management with internal IT systems.
- Leverage various digital and mechanical platforms to collect, analyze,
and deliver data on agronomic traits in a timely manner throughout the growing season; opportunity to work with cutting‑edge innovation and proof‑of‑concept projects.
- Self‑motivate, problem‑solve, and make decisions with respect to time, prioritization, and project management.
- Build and leverage networks across diverse teams and functions, and establish and maintain partnerships in the local community, including local leaders, influencers, and growers.
- Supervise and direct third‑party labor or seasonal staff to achieve trial and business objectives.
- Communicate across teams and leaders, be agile, open to change, and engage in continuous learning.
- Partner with manager on a targeted business and personal development goal plan that aligns with Bayer’s values, leveraging opportunities and empowering the innovation‑ and digitally‑advanced environment to grow in your career and impact the Crop Science business.
- Travel up to 15% of the time including overnight travel, especially during peak seasons.
- Work extended hours, and/or weekends during peak seasons.
- Drive a company vehicle while at work.
- May require hauling trailers, products, supplies or equipment in a safe manner.
- Foster an inclusive environment of professionalism and safe working practices ensuring Safety and Compliance requirements are met or exceeded within Squad.
Who you are
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in a related field (preferred: Bachelor of Science in Agronomy, Life Sciences, Engineering, or Computer Science).
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to work with connected systems and data management tools.
- Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team‑based environment.
- Ability to learn and operate research agriculture equipment, including precision agriculture technology.
- Knowledge or ability to learn region‑specific crop production and farming practices.
- Knowledge of basic statistical analysis and experimental research design principles.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to obtain appropriate driver’s license for medium to heavy vehicle operation (>10,000 lbs. GCWR) without air brake designation.
- Ability to obtain Pesticide Applicators License, and RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) drone pilot’s license.
- Ability to safely lift 50 lbs.; work in conditions that require sitting, standing, walking for extended periods.
- Ability to work in high and low temperatures in a field or greenhouse setting.
- Capable of working longer hours and weekends, primarily during the peak busy field season.
- Experience in agricultural research, seed technology industry or plant breeding.
- Mechanical and IT aptitude.
- Experience with precision agriculture hardware and software.
- History of implementing continuous improvements and innovation.

The base salary range for this role is between $60,000 and $114,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation. Additional benefits may include insured benefits such as health care, vision, dental, disability, and contributory retirement savings plans, etc. This salary range is an estimate and may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, market data and the applicant’s skills, prior relevant experience, job‑related knowledge, specific degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
