Our BC/DR Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing large‑scale Backup and Disaster Recovery infrastructures, specifically focusing on Veeam Cloud Connect, to service Opti9 Technologies’ Resellers and End Users. This position also plays a critical role in business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) planning, infrastructure planning and maintenance, and assisting with escalated customer support requests. The ideal candidate will be a mentor within the BC/DR team and show themselves to be proactive in handling job duties as well as delegating relevant tasks to other BC/DR Engineers. Additionally, a deep understanding of backup and disaster recovery technologies, cloud infrastructure, hypervisor diversity, hyper‑scalers (AWS/Azure/GCP), scripting and industry best practices to ensure operational resilience for our customers will be essential.What are the details? Primary ResponsibilitiesBackup and Replication Infrastructure Maintenance:Architect, manage, and maintain large‑scale Veeam Cloud Connect infrastructures that include Gateways, Proxies and Scale‑Out Backup RepositoriesArchitect, manage and maintain large‑scale Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 environmentsMonitor performance and availability of Veeam environments, addressing any potential bottlenecks or issuesConduct regular health checks on backup systems, troubleshoot issues, and serve as an escalation point while leveraging vendor support when necessaryEnsure system stability by planning and performing timely software upgrades on both Veeam platformsBest Practices Implementation:Apply industry best practices for patching and maintaining Veeam platforms, ensuring minimal downtimeCreating and following established internal management processes, ensuring all critical security patches are applied promptly without disrupting servicesCreating and following established internal best practices for data backup, replication, and recovery, ensuring data integrity and availability in the event of a disasterDisaster Recovery Planning:Design, implement,
and maintain disaster recovery solutions to ensure business continuity for both Opti9 Technologies and its customersCollaborate with customers to implement tailored disaster recovery solutions that meet their RTOs and RPOsPeriodically perform internal and/or customer disaster recovery tests to ensure full compliance and effectiveness of business continuity and disaster recovery plansProvide technical guidance on disaster recovery strategies using Veeam for replication and failoverCustomer Support & Escalations:Serve as a technical escalation point for Opti9’s front‑line support (NOC) as well as within the BC/DR team for Veeam platformsWork closely with Opti9’s front‑line support team, customers, and vendors directly as needed to troubleshoot and resolve customer backup and disaster recovery issues in a timely and productive mannerHandle complex troubleshooting issues as needed, serving as an escalation point within the BC/DR team as well as leveraging vendor support as needed to ensure a high level of serviceParticipate in an On‑Call rotation on an as needed basisCustomer Implementations:Assist in the onboarding and implementation of new customers, configuring Veeam environments as per customer requirementsEngage with other team members, and customers as needed, to understand unique customer needs and provide expert advice on the best solutions to meet those needsProvide guidance to both customers and internal teams regarding the use of Veeam for disaster recoveryInfrastructure Support:Planning and deployment of Veeam Backup and Replication, S3 Storage Buckets, Repositories, Scale Out Backup Repositories (SOBR), Gateways, Proxies and other components in support of Veeam Backup and Recovery, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and Veeam Cloud ConnectArchitecture and deployment of large scale Veeam Cloud Connect and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 environments.Documentation & Reporting:Create and update existing documentation of internal system configurations, procedures, and issues for internal reference and customer reportsAssist with generation of client specific documentation and configurations as requiredGenerate reports following Opti9’s SOPs on backup performance, incidents, and compliance with recovery objectivesWhat do you know? Required QualificationsEducation & Certifications:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experienceVeeam (e.G., Veeam Certified Engineer – VMCE) and Zerto (e.G., Zerto Certified Professional) preferred but not requiredRelevant industry certifications are a plusCertification training opportunities availableExperience:4+ years of experience in a backup and disaster recovery engineering roleHands‑on experience with Veeam Cloud Connect and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, including backup, replication,
and failover management preferredHands on experience with S3 compatible storage platforms such as Azure Blob, BackBlaze and WasabiExperience working in cloud‑based environments (Azure, AWS, or private clouds) preferredTechnical Skills:Proficiency in virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper‑V, and VirtuozzoProficiency of networking fundamentals and experience with disaster recovery networking considerationsProficiency with Windows and Linux server administrationProficiency with scripting in PowerShell or other languages preferredSoft Skills:Friendly and Approachable, it’s easy for you to connect with both colleagues and clientsPositive attitude, even in challenging situations such as real-world disaster scenariosExcellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilitiesStrong communication skills, both written and verbal to interact effectively with customers and internal teamsAbility to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environmentDetail‑oriented with a strong focus on maintaining uptime and meeting service level agreementsDesired Qualifications:Zerto administration, encompassing the maintenance and optimization of large Zerto environments, including ZCMs, ZVMs, VRAs, and VPGs ensuring they meet customer disaster recovery objectivesZerto Certified ProfessionalWhat do you get from us?
