Our Chalk River Laboratories (CRL) location is seeking a Preventive Maintenance (PM) Section Head to lead the development and execution of preventive maintenance activities to ensure secure and effective operations.
Responsibilities
- Developing/Maintaining the Functional documentation for the Maintenance Program.
- Providing technical guidance and support to Site Infrastructure on the implementation and execution of PM activities.
- Managing, tracking, and acting as a single point of contact for all incoming customer requests.
- Establishing and executing routine screening and Plan of the Week (POW) meetings.
- Managing and assigning work activities for PM planners that meet internal and customer expectations.
- Establishing and ensuring PM developments meet defined product specifications.
- Advocating and implementing industry best practices for Preventive Maintenance.
- Defining, developing and proposing PM optimization strategies.
- Understanding and promoting Predictive (PDM) and Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM).
- Maintaining data integrity and access control related to the PM module within the Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS).
- Championing improvements and optimizing the use of EAMS in the execution of PM’s.
- Supporting the development and implementation of program-related training;
- Defining and ensuring appropriate planning of all PM’s, including full implementation of Integrated Work Control (IWC).
- Managing asset-level implementation in EAMS.
- Identifying, investigating and solving Preventive Maintenance problems.
- Preparing and reporting programmatic metrics.
- Approving all PM and asset changes and assessments.
- Incorporating lessons learned from operating experience into the maintenance program.
- Ensuring parts and consumables are defined for PM and approving Stock codes.
- Interact effectively within organizations such as Managers, Engineers, Operators, and skilled trades.
- Leading and assisting in conducting interviews, goal setting, performance management, career development,
and disciplinary actions for assigned staff.
- Authorizing timesheets, leave approvals, vacation and overtime.
- Providing coaching as necessary.
- Working with technical staff to resolve issues and maintain a safe, forward-looking approach to preventive maintenance.
- Managing the execution of all Pressure Vessel inspections to meet regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
Qualifications
- Education
- Graduation from an institute of technology or a qualified tradesperson.
- Experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a maintenance or technical role.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Well-developed leadership and communication skills, including the ability to develop a collaborative, team-oriented work environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of Management Functional documentation with a detailed understanding of the Maintenance Function.
- Proficient use of EAMS software with a detailed understanding of the PM module.
- A broad understanding or ability to acquire knowledge on the technical codes, standards, or license requirements related to preventive maintenance.
- Ability to communicate effectively on technical issues using a variety of methods.
- A strong understanding of Equipment Reliability principles and Preventive Maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to write technical instructions.
- Proficient in the use of business software such as MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
- Ability to read and comprehend various types of engineering drawings and specifications.
- Clear understanding of the Integrated Work Control (IWC).
- Ability to think logically through complex problems.
- Capable of interpreting complex drawings and specifications in either paper or electronic format.
- Self-starter with initiative to promote new ideas and good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to stay motivated and achieve the established goals and objectives.
- Willingness to undergo additional training appropriate to the position (e.g., Computer training, Quality Assurance, Applicable Codes, Leadership Skills).
- Familiar with emergency procedures and responsibilities.
- Familiarity with compliance programs.
- Capable of producing detailed plans and schedules.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), with a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions
- Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, eight (8) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.

Location: Onsite. Located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, Chalk River site offers a natural setting with forests, lakes, and wildlife, near Deep River, Petawawa, and Pembroke. On-site position at Chalk River Laboratory in Ontario.
