This position will report into Technical Manager Piping on Cernavoda 1 EPC project.
Responsibilities
Develop and conceptualize plans, details, and drawing sections to clearly communicate construction and fabrication requirements.
Review scope documents, P&IDs;, and supporting technical documentation (e.g., assessment reports, design requirements, design manuals, piping specifications, system and code classification lists), and prepare presentation materials summarizing design changes and impacts.
Prepare and develop piping layouts and design deliverables, including general arrangement, isometric, and piping support drawings, in accordance with P&IDs;, design inputs, applicable standards, and project specifications.
Collaborate with drafters/designers to produce 2D drawings and 3D models for approved modifications and design changes.
Provide design inputs to the piping stress team and coordinate reviews; address comments and support timely comment disposition.
Plan, assign, and manage the distribution of drafting and 3D modelling tasks to support schedule and quality objectives.
Identify cost‑effective, technically compliant solutions to design challenges.
Perform checking and back‑checking of 3D models and piping drawings to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project standards.
Support the preparation of TSSA registration packages for pressure boundary modifications and coordinate technical interfaces with regulatory bodies.
Ensure orderly coordination and document control by reviewing design inputs and outputs at all stages of the design process.
Interface with customer engineering representatives (SNN) and project stakeholders, as required, to support design alignment and issue resolution.
Provide management with timely updates on schedule, technical progress, risks, and deliverable status for assigned scopes.
Provide timely engineering responses and technical resolutions to critical design and field issues.
Attend site visits, walkdowns, and project meetings, as required.
Ensure engineering deliverables are completed on time and in accordance with the applicable QA program, codes, standards, regulations, and procedures, with a strong focus on quality.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, designers, and drafters.
Maintain valid personal qualification records and complete required training within timelines.
Participate in interdisciplinary model reviews (3D model reviews/clash detection) and coordinate piping interfaces with mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, I&C;, and HVAC disciplines.
Incorporate constructability, accessibility, maintainability, and ALARA considerations into piping routing and design, including field installation constraints.
Develop and verify material take‑offs (MTOs) and support procurement through BOM reviews, technical queries, and vendor drawing reviews, as required.
Provide field engineering support during installation, including responding to RFIs, reviewing field changes, and ensuring as‑built documentation is captured and issued.
About You Qualifications (includes, but not limited to):
Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university with a minimum of 10+ years of experience (minimum 5‑8 years in the nuclear industry as Piping Engineer working on nuclear piping systems).
Experience in working on EPC and/or EPCM projects.
Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and member in good standing.
Strong knowledge of CSA N285, ASME B31.1, ASME B16.5, ASTM materials, ASME/ANSI PS‑15‑69 and ASME Sec III Div I requirements.
Strong working knowledge of piping specifications, administrative and technical practices, design instructions, Flow Diagrams, P&IDs;, and interpreting vendor information.
Experience in the generation of Site / Plot Plans, Piping General Arrangement Drawings, Piping Plans/Layouts, Piping Isometrics, Sections/Details, Pipe Support Details, Piping Bills of Material.
Ability to conceptualize design details independently with minimal supervision or instructions from Engineers.
Experience in pressure boundary systems and TSSA registration is an asset.
Knowledge of Pressure Boundary Modifications.
Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
