Job Title:
Senior Mechanical Designer
Position Overview We are seeking a
Senior Mechanical Designer
to support the design and development of CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control) system components. This role involves designing racks, sub-racks, wayside enclosures, and integrating COTS equipment while ensuring compliance with railway standards such as CENELEC and AREMA.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to large-scale rail infrastructure projects while working within a collaborative and technically advanced engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
Design mechanical components and assemblies using tools such as
CREO
and
Solid Edge
Develop solutions aligned with manufacturing processes and best practices
Perform
mechanical and thermal simulations
using tools like ANSYS, CREO Advanced Simulation, Flotherm, and IcePak
Conduct
vibration analysis , including PSD evaluations
Implement
corrosion mitigation strategies
and ensure environmental durability
Create and manage requirements using tools such as
DOORS
and
Polarion
Ensure designs comply with applicable railway standards and specifications
Support validation and verification activities, including thermal and vibration testing
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
Mentor and support junior team members as needed
Track project progress and ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks
Participate in occasional travel to customer sites (up to 3 times per year)
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in
Mechanical or Civil Engineering , or equivalent experience
6–10 years of relevant industry experience
Strong proficiency in
mechanical design tools
(CREO, Solid Edge)
Hands‑on experience with
thermal and mechanical simulations
(ANSYS, IcePak, CREO Advanced Simulation)
Solid understanding of
EMC control
(cabling, grounding, gasketing, cable passthroughs)
In‑depth knowledge of
material properties , including fatigue and failure mechanisms
Familiarity with
ingress protection standards
(IP, NEMA ratings)
Experience with
validation and verification testing
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to analyze options and present clear recommendations
Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and task‑tracking abilities
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of experience in the
railway signaling industry
Advanced expertise in
mechanical design and simulation tools
Deep understanding of
shock, vibration, fatigue, and crack propagation
Proven experience in
failure analysis and design improvement
Hands‑on experience conducting and validating
thermal and vibration testing
Familiarity with
corrosion mitigation , including galvanic corrosion
Experience reviewing and ensuring compliance with
technical standards and contracts
Proficiency with lab and field measurement tools for vibration and thermal analysis
PEO (Professional Engineers Ontario) certification
