Why Join Us? Join us at DWF! We are seeking a talented and motivated Mid‑Senior Level Litigation Associate to join our growing Aboriginal Litigation Team in our Vancouver office.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of post‑call litigation experience in Aboriginal law. Specifically:

Experience negotiating and litigating historic Treaty and aboriginal rights‑based claims, whether through the Specific Claims Policy and Procedure, Specific Claims Tribunal, or the Courts.

Experience with land and title claims, including Treaty Land Entitlement, Special Claims, and land and title litigation.

Experience with Band Governance matters, e.g., Elections Disputes, Judicial Review of Chief and Council Decisions, Removals, and other Band Governance Matters.

Experience litigating on behalf of and in defence of First Nations Corporate Bodies, including First Nation Economic Development Bodies and Nation‑owned Corporations.

Familiarity with modern treaties and the modern treaty negotiation process, whether under the BC Treaty Commission or otherwise.

Any experience in environmental litigation is an added benefit.

Responsibilities The successful candidate will work with experienced and respected senior counsel on a wide range of interesting and cutting‑edge legal matters and will support the Aboriginal practice group on a national level. An existing client base is not required. We offer attractive performance‑based remuneration opportunities, and flexible and innovative work arrangements where appropriate.

What Will Help You Succeed in This Role? Qualifications





Legally entitled to practice law in Canada

Member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia

At least 7 years of Aboriginal law litigation experience

Excellent English oral and written skills and communication ability

Strong organization and teamwork skills

Ability to multi‑task and manage a busy practice alongside legal assistants and paralegals/clerks

Compensation and Benefits The salary range for this position is $195,000 – $215,000 annually; the base compensation is dependent upon year of call and relevant experience.
