HDR has an exciting opportunity for a proven leader and technically exceptional individual in the field of water and wastewater to join our already strong Water Business Group as a Water / Wastewater Project Manager.

Responsibilities As a Water / Wastewater Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for scoping, planning, managing, directing and monitoring all aspects of drinking water and wastewater projects and contracts with high degrees of technical complexity. More specifically,



the Project Manager will be expected to effectively interface with clients while independently leading and supervising teams of engineers and CAD professionals to create detailed master plans, detailed designs including plans and specifications, and cost estimates.

Develop and execute scope, schedule and fees for planning and design projects

Develop and implement QA/QC and risk management plans for each project

Develop project design criteria, schematics and methods

Perform or oversee modeling and hydraulic calculation efforts related to gravity and pressure piping systems

Prepare preliminary design, basis of design reports, routing and alignment studies, and other engineering reports

Develop and write engineering specifications and front‑end documents

Oversee the production of design drawings

Work directly with the owner to ensure that the project exceeds the owner’s expectations

Prepare proposals partnering with technical leadership and marketing

Beyond technical delivery, the Project Manager will collaborate with leadership, other project managers, and technical staff across Canada and the United States to maintain HDR’s commitment to excellent technical delivery for our clients. This includes developing a technical mentorship program, reviewing existing detailed design standards, mentoring staff, participating in quality control, abstract development, and reviewing scopes of work and associated fees.

Lastly, the Project Manager is expected to actively engage in client management activities (e.g., internal client management calls, client meetings) and participate in the overall strategy discussions for successfully marketing with our clients.

Preferred Qualifications





8–10 years related experience in the water / wastewater industry

Proven and significant process mechanical detailed design experience, including technologies and equipment, to lead efforts associated with the group’s technical delivery program

Proven leadership and commitment to the technical development and mentorship of staff

Experience developing detailed scopes and fees for a wide variety of planning and design projects

Excellent communication, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Condition assessment and rehabilitation experience of pressure and gravity pipelines

Existing relationships with clients in the Greater Toronto Area

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

7 years related experience

A minimum of 2 years project management experience

Professional Engineer license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position (e.g., PE or P.Eng)

MS Office and MS Project experience; Access experience a plus

Demonstrated leadership skills

An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture
