Cross Fraser Partnership (CFP) is a Bouygues Construction Canada Inc., Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas Canada Ltd., Pomerleau BC Inc. and Arcadis Canada Inc. general partnership that has been selected to collaboratively deliver a new, eight-lane immersed tube tunnel that will replace the existing George Massey Tunnel on Highway 99. The new tunnel will have three vehicle lanes and a dedicated transit lane in each direction, with a separated active transportation corridor for cyclists and pedestrians.
Position Overview The Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for managing and coordinating Geotechnical Consultants to support the development of civil and structural designs. This includes planning, specifying, and supervising geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and laboratory testing programs.
Key Responsibilities
Support the planning and execution of geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, sampling, in‑situ testing, lab test coordination, and data logging.
Assist with the specification, installation, and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation, including settlement plates, inclinometers, piezometers, load cells, and automated monitoring systems.
Collect and interpret monitoring data, identify anomalies, prepare summary reports, and help ensure instrumentation systems are functioning reliably.
Perform basic geotechnical calculations and analyses, such as bearing capacity checks, slope stability, earth pressures, and settlement assessments, under the supervision of senior geotechnical engineers.
Work with designers and modelers to support the development and updating of geotechnical models, drawings, and technical documentation.
Assist in reviewing geotechnical deliverables from consultants and subcontractors, contributing to technical discussions and helping ensure alignment with project standards.
Support construction teams on‑site, providing technical input related to earthworks, temporary works, excavations, dewatering, and foundation works.
Conduct regular field inspections to verify geotechnical work compliance with specifications and quality requirements.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, helping refine procedures, monitoring methods, and data management practices.
Maintain clear and proactive communication with project partners, designers, and site teams.
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field.
2–5 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, ideally in large infrastructure or transportation projects.
Experience with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring (installation, data interpretation, troubleshooting) is strongly preferred.
Interest or familiarity with seismic design considerations, including liquefaction, is an asset
Basic understanding of geotechnical analysis tools (e.g., finite element/finite difference software such as Plaxis, Settle3, or equivalent).
Eligibility for Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) registration or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) track within Canada.
Strong communication skills, willingness to work in the field, and enthusiasm for developing practical, hands‑on geotechnical expertise.

The expected salary range for this opportunity is $70,000 - 110,000. Please note that salaries may vary depending on the candidate’s experience and geographical location.
