Senior Mining Engineer Location: St. Johns, NL; Brampton, Sudbury; or North Bay, ON
Job Description The Senior Mining Engineer participates in a wide range of projects covering technical and economic evaluations related to mining engineering, mine planning, mineral processing, and financial analysis. The position supports underground and surface mining operations, assists in business development, and grows US mining operations. Activities include site investigation, modeling for FEL studies and detailed engineering, and preparation of engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets, and reports.
Responsibilities
Inspect current and existing mining sites to determine the best extraction methods.
Provide mining engineering and design services for underground mine studies, including scoping, prefeasibility, feasibility, detailed design, and NI 43-101 technical reports.
Develop business development opportunities within the United States.
Coordinate mining engineering projects with the mining team and other engineering disciplines.
Oversee the preparation of mining engineering drawings in collaboration with the Mining Designer.
Complete routine reporting and other documentation.
Communicate effectively with team members.
Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
Assist the Director of Engineering and EITs with scope, cost, and schedule delivery.
Prepare mining equipment specifications and assist with procurement.
Prepare technical specifications based on interdisciplinary input.
Contribute to technical memos and reports.
Provide input to engineering, CAPEX and OPEX cost estimates.
Design mine infrastructures, ventilation systems, backfill systems, and mining services.
Perform project management tasks for capital and maintenance projects.
Ensure projects are delivered on budget and schedule.
Participate in proposal preparations.
Stamp documents and drawings as required.
Support business development activities through conferences, direct business development, and client relationship management.
Familiarize with company standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent degree such as Geological Engineering.
Registered P.Eng.
Minimum 15+ years project engineering experience.
High proficiency with underground mining design and planning software: Deswik, Datamine, Vulcan, Surpac, or Minesight.
Knowledge of mine operation components: processing, tailings, infrastructure.
Operational experience in underground mining, cut & fill, bulk mining, sub‑level block caving, and block caving.
Organized, self‑motivated, proactive, detail‑oriented with good communication skills.
Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
Extensive knowledge of engineering standards, codes, and guidelines.
Knowledge of mining‑related processes is a definite asset.
Ability to function with minimal supervision.
Experience with procedures and workflows in project execution.
Compensation Salary range: $130,000 – $160,000.
