Overview
Job Description Liaison Engineer, Mechanical and Piping is responsible for evaluating and resolving engineering-related production or drawing issues encountered in assigned construction areas at Seaspan. Under the direction of the Liaison Engineering Manager, Liaison Lead or Project Manager, the Liaison Engineer supports operations in assigned areas including: review of production drawings and progress, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to maintain current knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities in assigned areas. This role may also collaborate closely with other teams, including design teams to optimally complete tasks as assigned. This role will also interface with Operations personnel to resolve production and testing issues and maintain schedule. Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
Responsibilities
- Develop full understanding of construction standards, material specifications and bills of material in accordance with Seaspan material strategies and customer requirements and develop understanding piping standards, P&ID; and Isometric drawings, collaborating closely with design engineers to resolve production issues.
- Attend manufacturing shops and provide field support as needed.
- Provide engineering support as assigned in areas of construction.
- Collaborate closely with Operations and with Planning and Production Control to tackle production issues in a technically acceptable manner and maintain cost and schedule objectives.
- Develop and/or review design documents to achieve Customer, Classification Society and other regulatory approval.
- Provide support to suppliers and subcontractors related to the activities in areas of construction to achieve cost and schedule performance.
What You’ll Bring
- An Engineering degree in mechanical, marine systems or naval architecture is required.
- P.Eng., or EIT registration.
- 3+ years post-secondary experience in piping and mechanical, marine systems or naval architecture is preferred.
- Previous maritime, shipyard or shipboard knowledge or experience is desired.
- Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of piping standards, P&ID; development, mechanical equipment; familiar with mechanical/piping field engineering.
- Technical knowledge and engineering skills, including use of analysis tools and knowledge of analytical methods.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to develop solutions to complex technical problems.
- Above average analytical skills to capture and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the analysis process.
- Strong technical writing and interpersonal skills including the ability to produce and communicate clear and detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
- Working knowledge of Plant Modeler, Cadmatic software, Eshare,
ShipConstructor and CAD software, Navis and any other visualization tools, document control systems and databases is an asset.
- Strong communication skills including verbal, written, listening and presentation.
- Good organizational skills.
- Availability and willingness to travel if needed.
- Committed to a high standard of safety and able to follow all safety laws and all of the employer's safety policies and rules.
- Exercise sound judgments and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
- PC proficiency required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).

The estimated salary for this position is $90,000 - $110,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
