Senior Data Scientist

Location: Waterloo, ON (3 days in-office)

Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Compensation: $140,000 base + benefits + ESOP

Our client is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to lead the design and delivery of high quality, customer specific machine learning solutions. This role is hands on and end to end—owning the full lifecycle from deep data analysis and model development through to production deployment.

You’ll bring strong expertise in non–deep learning ML techniques, with the ability to apply deep learning where it adds real value, particularly on raw, non-textual data. The focus is on building accurate, reliable, and production ready models that solve real customer problems.

What You’ll Do

- Design, develop, and deploy custom machine learning models, with a primary focus on non–deep learning approaches (tree based models, ensembles, probabilistic methods, clustering, anomaly detection).
- Apply deep learning techniques to raw, non-textual datasets when appropriate.
- Perform in-depth data analysis, including outlier detection and development of data quality metrics to ensure robust, trustworthy models.
- Build solutions for anomaly detection, clustering, classification, and data visualization/reporting.
- Lead feature engineering, data preprocessing,



and exploratory analysis on large, complex datasets.
- Partner closely with engineering teams to integrate models into production environments.
- Write clean, maintainable, production grade, object oriented Python code.
- Clearly communicate findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For

Required:

- 5+ years of industry experience in machine learning, with deep expertise in non–deep learning methods.
- Demonstrated experience applying deep learning to raw, non-textual data.
- Strong background in statistics, model evaluation, and validation techniques.
- Hands on experience with anomaly detection, clustering, classification, outlier detection, and data quality metrics.
- Advanced Python skills, including production level, object oriented development (beyond notebooks).
- Strong problem solving skills and the ability to work autonomously in a fast paced workplace.
- Clear, confident communication skills.

Nice to Have:

- Experience building customer specific or bespoke ML solutions.
- Familiarity with Azure or cloud based ML environments.
- Background in startup or small, high impact teams.
