About the Role:
We are hiring a dedicated, hardworking Assistant Director,Summer Day Camp, to support the operation of our Summer Day Camps at 6confirmed sites—with the possibility of a few more: two within our associationat the Community YMCA and John W. Lindsay, and 4 external sites throughoutHalifax, Spryfield, Sackville, and Cole Harbour. The Assistant Director willsupport the Director in oversight of these locations, along with but notlimited to staff training, administrative tasks, parent/guardian communication,promotion, and marketing.
In this role, you will:
- Workwith the Director, Day Camps on hiring, onboarding, scheduling, andperformance evaluation for a team of 40+ staff at multiple sites aroundHRM
- Ensurestaff provide the quality care and engaging programming that the YMCApromises its families
- Collaboratewith all camp staff to create a positive and inclusive camp environmentwhile role modeling YMCA’s childcare best practices
- Communicatewith families and guide them through the registration and financialassistance processes, in addition to supporting additional questionsand/or inquiries regarding camp
- Workin collaboration with internal and external partners on advertising summerday camp and financial assistance opportunities
- Helppurchase, organize, and deliver necessary materials to day camp locationsthroughout HRM to ensure the continued delivery of quality programming
- Incollaboration with the Director and Site Leads, develop a catalogue ofengaging activities to be led by day camp staff. Ensure programming isengaging, age-appropriate, intentional, and risk is minimized
- Maintainopen day-to-day communication with designated camp sites. Discusssituations and solutions with the Director, Day Camp when appropriate.Connect with YMCA parents and families to ensure day camp programmingmeets their needs and expectations
- Enforcecamp safety rules and procedures, including first aid and emergencyresponse protocols. Be prepared to respond quickly to situations atmultiple sites throughout HRM
- Identifypotential improvements to camp and work with the team to implement them
- Fosteran environment that promotes diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusionand respect among all YMCA staff and participants
- Additionalduties as assigned by Director
Education and Skills Qualifications:
- HighSchool diploma,
or equivalent combination of education and experience,with a solid character reference required
- Post-secondaryeducation in Early Childhood Education or related field is an asset
- 5+years' experience working with children and youth
- Priorexperience in a supervisory role
- Cross-culturalcommunication skills to work with youth, parents/guardians, and staff
- Abilityto meet multiple, competing deadlines and priorities
- Accessto a reliable method of transport
- Strongattention to detail
- Excellentverbal, written, and presentation/workshop facilitation skills
- Stronginterpersonal skills
