Jean Tweed is a leading, community-based organization that provides a supportive environment for women with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns. Recognizing the diversity of women’s experience in today’s society, our programs seek to address a range of issues in a woman’s life that may contribute to substance use and gambling concerns.

Program Summary The

Intake Department

coordinates the activities of the Centre’s Intake & Support and Stabilization programs, and to provide both indirect and direct services. This includes assessment, group facilitation, case management, participation in the planning, development and evaluation of the department. The department also does administration related to treatment‑matching including the review and interpretation of assessment information, and completion of documentation related to client admissions.

How will you help us get there: The

Intake Counsellor

provides access to a continuum of services at the Centre including engagement, assessment, stabilization, and treatment matching. The role offers direct support to women in each of these service areas, coordinates daily activities of the Intake Department.

Service

Conduct assessments and provide treatment matching.

Provide referrals and linkages as appropriate, e.g. withdrawal management, medical attention etc.

Liaise with referral agencies to facilitate admissions and maintain an effective admission process.

Assist applicants with preparation for program through the provision of support, liaison with collateral supports, providing referrals, and ongoing assessments.

Prepare letters and reports as necessary.

Provide support across teams to enhance continuity and quality of care.

Collaborate with supervisor to discuss job performance and establish professional goals.

Ensure maintenance of documentation, including clinical notes.





Engage in ongoing staff development and personal learning as agreed to in performance reviews.

Develop and implement programming in collaboration with the Manager, Outpatient and in line with the Agency strategic objectives.

Collaborate to develop programming in line with evidence‑informed and best practices.

Implement and maintain professional practice standards and any relevant reporting and licensing.

Complete statistics and reports on program activities and special projects where applicable.

Recommend, participate in the development of and implementation of policies and procedures within the department.

Represent the Jean Tweed Centre in the community.

Facilitate the support and Stabilization groups.

Establish collaborative relationships with funders, community partners and stakeholders as appropriate to further the Centre’s mission.

Monitor the safety, health and well‑being of the clients under the program care.

Organizational

Conduct job responsibilities with a commitment to harm reduction, trauma‑informed, women‑centred and anti‑oppressive practices.

Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor.

Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Jean Tweed Centre.

Perform other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of The Jean Tweed Centre.

Maintain a client service orientation including learning about/addressing client needs and concerns.

Pay CA$25.59 - CA$29.93 per hour

Location 215 Evans Ave., Etobicoke, ON M8Z 1J5

Hours of Work Standard Hours 9:00am-5:00pm, Tuesdays: 12pm-8pm (to accommodate facilitation)

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Previous experience in case management and conducting comprehensive assessments.

Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in related field.

Knowledge and understanding of women’s issues, particularly as they relate to women with substance use, mental health and/or gambling concerns.

Excellent decision-making, problem‑solving and conflict/crisis management skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive and collaborative working relationships with individuals and teams.

Strong computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Excellent individual and group supervisory skills.

Administrative, project management and program development skills.

Ability to facilitate groups and educational sessions.

Familiarity with Ministry required admission tools.

Must be energetic, and comfortable working in a rapid‑paced environment.
